Customer Reviews of Run Screaming
The Last Gasp Of A great Band If you are a closed-minded ska fan, you'll probably be extremely dissapointed by this CD. Gherkin lost the ska for the most part. But James Richman's lyrics and the counter melodies of the horns and keys are nothing short of great. The CD has a great soul-like feel to it. Almost reminicent of the Blues Brothers musically. Notable tracks would be "You're Pretty (In A Pretty Sort Of Way)" , "Baby Snake", and "Letter Head". Other songs such as "In Love With Movie Stars" take on obsession, in a sugar coated format. Sometime you actually have to read the lyrics to see that there are some very cool images laid out in the lyrics. A.J.'s 3 songs on the CD aren't quite as good as his offerings on Shed Some Skin, but what can you do? This is a very cool rock oriented album. Sad to see them gone. I've probably seen this band live more than any other, and the progression was alway amazing.
I cant stop listening to this...
I'm mainly trying to boost this CD's ratings, because I think it deserves way more than a three...To me, all Slow Gherkin CD's should have a 5, but I find this one to be the most worthy. Every song on this CD gives me goosebumps (i.e baby snakes).
Not as good as the old band
All and all I find this album to be far weaker than the old line up. The songs are much less ska, which is not really a bad or good thing, I'm just saying... The vocals are strained and out of tune. The horns sound allright. The bass is weak compared to "Shed Some Skin", not as creative. Lyrics are sort of lame- in love with movie stars? Give me a break. I've heard that Gherkin is touring in Europe still. I guess it's because they can't pull it off here. I wouldn't waste any money on this cd, stick to S.S.S. for a better value.
