Customer Reviews of Rarities
Great for Silverchair Fans, A Pass for the Masses I have to admit I'm a Silverchair-aholic, and it pains me to do this to any of their CDs, but they only get a three star rating for this one. It has great songs, and great variety in moods and the generations of Daniel Johns' writing, which wins it three stars, but it isn't a good value at this price.
Why? Because you can get all of these songs (With the exception of "Spawn: the pre-Vitro version"), and the majority of their more popular tracks on "Silverchair: The Best of, VOL 1" album for the same price, or half the price if you are involved in the club pricing on Amazon.
So, if you are a fan (like me), who is going to collect it anyway just because it is a Silverchair CD; by all means go for it. Also, if you have the Frogstomp, Freak Show, and Neon Ballroom albums already, and therefore can't justify buying the Best of album, here is a great way to get almost everything else that album had to offer without repurchasing the previously released tracks. Otherwise, the Silverchair: Best of VOL1 album is the best way to experience the most of silverchair's incredible run and the unreleased goodies!
Hope this was helpful!
GREAT ALBUM!!!
This is a great album. I gave it only 4 stars because Neon Ballroom has a little more variety, though this album is filled with it. Neon Ballroom has more saddness and sincerety than this album. Rareties 1994-1999 is more funny and weird, but any Silverhair will truly enjoy it. I loved it the second I popped it into my player. Silverchair is my favotire band. This album showcases their great range of talent. "Untitled" is a beautiful, melodic tune with mildly depressing lyrics, much like the acoustic "Ana's Song." "Ana's Song" is stripped down to let the full emotional power of it be released. There's the fast-paced, high-energy punk sound to "New Race" and "Punk Song 2." "Punk Song 2" has some of the tune to "Findaway," which can be found on the Frogstomp album. The "Freak" re-mix was very different from the original, with a techno back-beat and grungy guitar loops. It would be good to dance to in a club, and made me feel.. what else, freakish! "Spawn" was a little dissapointing, though it's one of my favorite Silverchair songs. I've heard a rare version of it with electronic beeps of some sort, which added a lot to the song in my opinion. "Blind" is very good, with a little grungy guitar and some harmonizing. "Trash" is polished, but still has an underground feel. Funny, yet sad, "Wasted / Fix Me" left my mother thinking Silverchair curses, but they rarely do. No parental advisory sticker here! I think Daniel Johns only cussed because it's the voice of this song. "Minor Threat" is similar to "Wasted / Fix Me." This album also includes the vocal version of "Madman." It's very good, but I prefer the instrumental verion on Frogstomp. Buy this album if you like Silverchair, rock or grunge, or just feeling great. It has something for everyone!
Untitled... everyone should hear
Well I give this album 4 stars just because of the 'Untitled' track. It was featured on the 'Godzilla soundtrack' and also was considered to be one of the closing songs on their 2nd album 'Freak Show'. Whether you've heard of Silverchair or not I would recommend you to at least download the song. 'Punk Song #2' is also pretty good.. Blind is a really good song. And 'Ana's Song (Open Fire) [acoustic]' is pretty good. I think it's not really one of their best songs even though it was released as a single and pretty popular. But if I were you if you're looking for rarities of Silverchair buy their greatest hits of volume 1. And 'Frogstomp' and 'Neon Ballroom'. 'Diorama' takes awhile to get used to but it grows on you and becomes a very good cd. I didn't buy Freak Show because a few of the tracks seemed a bit too hard and it just wasnt a very good cd to me. So i wouldn't buy this if I were you. Just go ahead and get their greatest hits you'll get your money's worth.. but there are some other really good songs of theirs not on there.
