The album "River OF Dreams" Billy Joel is really one of his greatest. It is an excellent blend of softcore rock and pop. The blend is unique and many artists do try to copy it but fail dismally in the process. The opener "No Mans Land" is a strong song and gets the listener involved in the album straight away. Then the superb songs start coming. "The Wall of China" and "Blonde Over Blue" Both Stand Out as exceptionally well crafted songs. "All About Soul" is an excellent song will in some ways recapture the essense of the glorious 80's. "River Of Dreams" the title song is the result of master craftmanship and a unique voice. Overall the album is a masterpiece worthy to be in everyones CD collection.

If This Is Billy Joel's Last Album, It's A Splendid Coda
If this is Billy Joel's last album of original songs, it is truly a magnificient end to a marvellous career as one of America's best song writers. Without question, it's his most personal album, with songs such as "Shades Of Grey", "All About Soul", and "River Of Dreams" as among the best tracks, though there isn't a bad song in the entire CD. I would rate this CD as good as his best from his mid 1970's to early 1980's, ranking in quality with his exceptional work on "The Stranger" and "52nd Street". "River Of Dreams" is a splendid mixture of gospel, blues, soul, rock and roll, and classical music thrown together.

Billy's last collection of pop/rock compositions
This album was released on August 10,1993. That month,VH1,the adult contemporary music video channel,elected Billy VH1 Artist Of the Month. The first hit from the album is the gospel-flavored title track. ALL ABOUT SOUL really rocks. LULLABY(GOODNIGHT MY ANGEL) is a song for Billy's daughter Alexa. All the other songs are very good. The cover features a painting of a sleeping Billy with pictures surrounding him indicating what he's dreaming about. It was composed by Billy's wife,supermodel Christie Brinkley. When this album was released,Billy's and Christie's marriage was nearing the end. The ten songs on this album were Billy's last pop/rock compositions. Logically,the last track on this album is entitled FAMOUS LAST WORDS. TWO THOUSAND YEARS would later be recycled for 2000's THE MILLENIUM CONCERT,recorded on New Year's Eve 1999.
