This often grisly, arguably racist movie stars Kevin Costner as a U.S. Navy pilot who is the improbable friend of a powerful, vaguely criminal Mexican millionaire (Anthony Quinn). While visiting the latter on his estate, Costner's character has an affair with his host's gorgeous young wife (Madeline Stowe), for which he is almost beaten to death and the wife mutilated and turned into a junkie prostitute (nice, eh?). The hero seeks retaliation, and you may want the same against director Tony Scott, who makes the navy sequences look like beefcake excerpts from his earlier hit film, Top Gun. However, if you can stand the garishness, then perhaps the extreme violence won't be too bothersome, either. But expect a rough time either way. Revenge with Kevin Costner
This movie has it all. It's by far that this is my favorite movie. I have bought it three times, but loaned it out. So, now I have the DVD and I will not loan this one out. If it seems long or slow, just hang in there cause it only gets better.

man on fire was much better
i just didnt really like this film, it was actually very slow, nothing else to say except man on fire is tony scott's best revenge movie, so pick that film instead of this one

Best Ending, Ever
I saw this movie a few years back for the first time. I missed it when it came out in theaters....I participated in Operation Desert Shield/Storm and perhaps missed many things. I was amazed at how great this movie was, from beginning to end. I wanted to buy the soundtrack but couldn't find it so I bought the movie. <
>The final few minutes were flawless. Perfect harmony with song and mood. Costner and Stowe were very convincing.
