Customer Reviews of Rescue Magazine
RESCUE'S GREAT....(and I like Dan Ho, too) I recently found Rescue's Jan/Feb 2005 issue at my local Borders...it's super...all the pretty stuff plus humor and soul? C'mon...it's so freakily genuine, it's gotta be real. And enjoyable, too. Very smart. I LOVE this magazine...(and Dan Ho's pretty cute, too, even if he's the "face" of the magazine. I don't see anyone lining up to throw spitballs at Oprah, or Dr. Phil, or Trump. This is America people...and thank God Dan Ho's here.)
Not enough there
This Mr. Ho guy must have a lot of money. How else was he able to spin up a magazine centered around his pet peeve ("lifestyle gurus")? If I had that kind of cash, I'd start a magazine about bad drivers--the first issue could be devoted to people who don't use their turn signals, the second to folks who hang out in the left lane, the third to...hmmm, I seem to have run out of ideas, and that's my point with this magazine. It seems it's going to be hard to keep the momentum going without tying it into a larger issue--the simplicity movement, perhaps. (But something tells me that wouldn't be "different" enough for Mr. Ho.)

>Then there's the motto: "Step away from the glue gun." What's the crime in wanting to be a little creative? There are plenty of websites, magazines, etc. that show that one can be "crafty" AND original. And why is he so down on the "lifestyle" industry, anyway? Sure, Martha and company might be too intense for some folks--make that most folks--but he's taken them way too seriously.

>I've learned that Mr. Ho has written a book on the same theme. Seems like that would render the magazine superfluous.

Brilliant Magazine!
From the Jaded New Yorker who just read editor Dan Ho's "Rescue From House Gorgeous" Who is this guy? He's unbelievably moving, as are his magazine and book.
