Customer Reviews of Reroute to Remain

Best album since 'The Jester Race'
This album is not Nu-metal. None of the riffs are Nu-metal. I don't understand the comparison to Nu-metal bands! Any sane person could listen to this release and realize that Slipknot and Muddvayne are NOT influences. Don't pay attention to the reviewers who said this album was weaker than previous efforts (all one has to do is listen to 'Transparent,' which is probably one of the hardest and heaviest tracks that this band has ever put out), or the reviewers who referenced the last three In Flames efforts as having a similar sound to this one. Somewhere, somehow, this band managed to pick up an Iron Maidenesque sound on the CDs after 'The Jester Race.' Well, that sound is finally gone (thank god) and what is left on 'Reroute to Remain' is a balls-to-the-wall effort by this band that we haven't heard for six years. There are a couple of slow songs on this album, but they don't divert the listener from the overall intensity of this release (and they're easy to skip over). There are less guitar solos, but the solos on this CD are very refined and very well placed. I found 'Whoracle,' 'Colony,' and particularly 'Clayman' rather boring and repetitive releases. This album brings back the ferocity of earlier In Flames with a new tight sound and great production. This is the CD to buy for those cultivated fans of Scandinavian melodic death metal who are looking for music with an edge.

A different opinion
Ok, most people tend to bash this album on these reviews, saying that "its the worst effort by In Flames so far". I strongly dissagree. I too love Whoracle, and think that Jester Race and Clayman are very good cd's. I will say though, that this is my favorite In Flames album of them all. Yes, i know it seems to be blasphemy to say that these days, but i really love this cd. I think people tend to forget, bands evolve. Yes, some bands sell out, leaving behind their passion, but to say that In Flames going in another direction (evolving) means they've sold out,is incorrect. I still think their song writing is as good as ever, (see cloud connected for an example). and i think the cleaner vocals on this cd are an upgrade over past albums. I know they play alot less solos, but to compare them to "mainstream", or i say in regret, "KORN", is a joke. They are still the same band, with just a different twist if you will. I think if you listen to the title track Reroute to Remain, Cloud Connected, and Dawn of a New Day, you will hear very different songs than what you have heard in the past, but they are still very good songs. They have less solos, more of a new edge, but still vicious, still brilliant, and still In Flames. So, before you dismiss this, or Soundtrack to your Escape, give them a listen, and you will see that In Flames are still one of the most original bands out there.

Were they always like this?
When I first heard of them was when their single "Trigger" came out. I honestly loved it because of the solos and the type they play. I haven't heard anything like it. So here is my opinions of all of the songs in the cd.

1)Reroute to Remain- I'd give it 94/100 Guitars were catchy and I like the way he sings.....i guess. Song and melody tend to get stuck in my head once in a while. I like it.

2)System-90/100 At first I didn't like it because of the beginning but later on was when it got better....and the usual can't get it out of my head sort of thing.

3)Drifter- 85/100 I can never get heavily into this song. But contrary to the downfall it seems like a great song to hear live. The only thing I fell in love with in this song is that little mini solo near the ending.

4)Trigger-95/100 Very beginning is when this would be the only song that I would only listen to. There's so many good things I could say about this song. The opening to the song, solos, chorus etc. But later on this song just got overplayed so many times and it seems a little too much. But it's always good to hear.

5)Cloud Connected- 95/100 Quite questioning in the beginning, I was starting to wonder if I was listening to the same cd. But I like the melodicness included in the song. It's one of my favorites.

6)Transparent-100/100 My absolute top 3 favorite. The way that it builds up in the beginning, it's just so cool the way they present it. My favorite part is in the chorus, it's very unique with the vocals, background etc. And I got to give it to the lyrics, brilliant. Yeah, it's a very unique song, I love listening to it no matter what even if Im in the shower it's entertaining to hear it.

7)Dawn of a New Day- 94/100 I think it's good to hear when I'm dozing off or whatever. To me, it has a cool vibe to it like a somewhat calmness flow attached to it. So whenever I'm frustrated or caught up in an anger situation I know I could always count on listening to this song.

8)Egonomic- 93/100 Whenevr I hear this song, I tend to think it's a sing along whenever the chorus comes up. So yeah, it has some crunchy sounds contained in it, with some semi-melowness in the break part. Time after time I actually have grown to like it.

9)Minus- 100/100 Among of my top 3 favorites. This actually seems like a classic. (Yes, classic) I say classic because, this song contains all the elements that needs to be considered a classic. First there's the hard-rock crap slapped in there, and then they have the sadness etched in. Along with the very sad lyrics to be contained. In the break part is when they have that guitar break. It's like the song is it's own story by the sound and lyrics. That's how I considered it a classic in my eyes.

10)Dismiss the Cynics- 95/100 I like the way this song is presented even in the chorus. There's crunchy-ness in there. The lyrics are undoubtfully touching. The best part is at the break, where it's almost silience and all of a sudden.....drums kick in and.....the uprising guitars building up more and more by the second. Great Song.

11)Free Fall- 100/100 Another of the top 3. The beginning when it has the jukebox opening and the guitars pop in. And the way that he sings when it starts up. I have nothing against anything whatsoever in the song. Everything in here is no doubt the best. The is my favorite song, of not just from the cd but from all time.

12)Dark Signs- 90/100 This seems like a rip off from another song on this cd, but like a continuium. Catchy chorus too.

13)Metaphor- 99/100 Best of the slow songs I have ever heard. I couldn't even believe this is from the same band. According to the credits, there's supposed to be some chick singing too?¿? I think I could hear it but i'm still not sure. Aside from that, I am in love with the lyrics. It's just tearful the part when it's on break and drums kick in and he says "Break me open The Desprate Cry" it's so sad it's just destined to be classic. Also great to listen to when feelin down.

14)Black and White- 95/100 Seems like any mundane song a rock band could come out with. It has the same elements to fit the description. Chorus seems pretty catchy. To me, this song is like just any song I would hear on the radio.

My question is why people diss this album? It's not thay bad, they have great solos here and there. They say its all crappy compared to previous releases. I would rather check out their early stuff to see why these people are being brats whining about this cd. It's clearly that the worst album recorded, I don't see what the fuss is about until I check them out more.
