Customer Reviews of Red Dawn (Collector's Edition)
Relax, it's Just a Movie As neither a right wing gun-nut warmonger nor a left wing one-world group-hugger, it is fun to read the five and one star reviews. Such hysteria over an action movie. Such shameless displays of black/white understandings of the world from both extremes. Maybe the one stars and the five stars should play a friendly game of tackle football and share a few brews (American beer only, of course) to work their differences out. In the meantime, I suggest they relax and enjoy the popcorn flick. <
>Red Dawn is, in the end, enjoyable in a 1980's action flick sorta way and that's about it. Lotsa gunbattles, cold war propaganda and macho flag and gun waving posturing. The plot itself is no more unrealistic than the average James Bond movie, which is to say it is pretty silly but that's fine because it is just a silly action flick. The kind of movie where a bunch of teenage boys camp in the mountains for monthes & find the means and opportunity (much less the inclination) to bathe, wash and blow dry their hair and shave everyday while fighting WW3. Our clean-cut, clear-eyed red-blooded American apple pie maleness will strike fear in the hearts of those unwashed heathen Commie invaders. Gotta love Hollywood. Obviously, they weren't trying for Lawrence of Arabia or Ben-Hur attention to detail here. At least the military hardware looks real. <
>The filmmakers cheerfully ignore early 80's American Cold War foreign policy, America's relations with it's political and economic allies, American military strength and technology, world events and even basic geography in order to fashion an entertaining what-if scenerio based on a few convenient make believe events & Cold War paranoia. The fact that Milius & co. take themselves so seriously just adds to the fun. Teen Tigerbeat heartthrobs Patrick Swayze & Charlie Sheen and cuties Leah Thompson & Jennifer Grey get paid to play soldier and we get to watch. Sounds like a fair deal to me.
Fine movie finally given right treatment
A movie roundly condemned upon its release, this film is far from unbelievable.

>I wish this had been a director's cut. That's my only gripe. Still, 5 stars.
The best PG-13 movie ever made
I first watched "Red Dawn" on HBO as a kid. The patriotism that it instilled drove me to join the US Army. The scenery is amazing, the plot line sufficient, and the characters are amazing. Rarely will you find a movie that commands the presence of so many key characters. From the mayor's patriotically weak son, the first generation Mexican-immigrant boy with the will to fight for the country he loves, to the stereotypical "good 'ol boys" who ultimately instill the futility of war in an enemy commanding general, you're forced to realize all that America has to offer to a potential occupational force.

>This is a must watch for anyone who displays a yellow ribbon, believes in the American way or is just up for a movie that spans the gambit of American values and determination.
