Customer Reviews of Reasonable Doubt
An album that changed lives. People say that rap/hip-hops golden era was in 1986, but to me the true golden era in hip-hop was ten years later i.e. 1996. This is the time period when B.I.G and 2pac were on the top of their game as well as other artist such as Nas, AZ, Mobb Deep, The Fugees, Wu-tang, and a rising Master P
With that said as much as I loved(and still do) Mobb Deep's Hell on Earth, the best album released in 96 is easily Jay-Z's Reasonable doubt.
The reason I bought this album is back then Jay seemed so polished for a "debut artist." During that time rappers were trying to get the cars and clothes, from his very first video Jay had that.
Every track is worth listening to, but "Dead Presidents pt.2", "Coming of Age", "Regrets" "22 twos" and most importantly "Bring it on" are something very special.
To this day "Bring it on" is probably my favorite Jay track, and probably one of my top five favorite songs ever.
In closing, In my lifetime vol.1 was good, Hardknock Life is a commercial classic, S. Carter sucked, The Dynasty showcased Beanie Segal, The Blueprint is a legit classic, and The Gift and the Curse sucked.
All these albums good or bad have some place in hip-hop, but it was Reasonable Doubt that changed it.
Classic Debut
Here is a classic debut by one of the rap game's hottest, Jay-Z. Higga was hot on his first two albums but fell after that, coming back on "The Dynasty". Here is his debut album, almost as good as Nas' classic debut "Illmatic".
"Can't Knock The Hustle" is a bangin track wit a great performance by Mary J. Blige. "Politics As Usual" is a bit dissapointing but Jigga makes up for it with the brilliant "Brooklyn's Finest" featuring the then alive Notorious B.I.G. "Dead Presidents 2" is a really hot track but "Feelin It" with Mecca is a little dissapointing. "D'Evils" is a nice track. "22 Two's" is a really hot track. "Can I Live" is a nice song. I love "Ain't No Nigga" and Foxy Brown does a classic job. "Friend Or Foe" is a pretty hot track and I love "Coming Of Age" with Memphis Bleek. "Cashmere Thoughts" is OK but "Bring It On" and "Regrets" close up the album greatly.
This is a really classic album from a classic rapper. Also check out "Vol. 1" and "The Dynasty".
