Customer Reviews of Radio Ranch/Round-Up Time in Texas
I object The thing that bothers me about some critics is that they fail to consider the technology and the time the movie was made. I find somethings humourous, but as a whole it is a quality movie for 1935. Those of us who were kids when these movies were first seen on TV, were able to use our imaginations and be much more creative than many of today's hi tech kids. It is all relevant. It was great for it's day and should be considered as such. If we are unable to accept that today's movies will be jokes to our grandchildren, then perhaps we should not watch anything older that a year or so and remain comfortable within our little narrow boxes.
Purely For Laughs and Nostalgia
When I was a kid and cable was also young, they ran stuff like Radio Ranch on Disney really late at night, and my Dad taped it. It's soo bad, but that's what makes it funny. Gene Autrey is a terrible actor, and the effects/creatures he encounters are hard core rank. Anyone who watched Muppet Babies or any other low grade sci-fi that couldn't afford it's own effect scenes will recognize this as the source of all those sorry bucket-head robots rampaging around the mole city. The thing that moves this beyond the endearing pathos of a Flash Gordon or Batman serial is the incorporation of Gene Autrey's presence as a musical "talent. THe whole ranch is threatened with danger, yet there's always time to sit down with the boys and crank out a tune. The songs, I guess they were supposed to be fun, are also so bad that you can't help laughing. I haven't seen the other movie in this two pack, but I had to buy Radio Ranch for my Dad and Brothers, the chance to laugh that hard was too good to pass up.
