Customer Reviews of Rachel's Attic
Great low budget indie film I just recently watched this film with my boyfreind and I thought that it was much better than expected. I thought it was going to be some kind of soft porn but instead I watched an intelligent indie thriller. I thought the actress that played Rachel was right on. It was kinda wierd in parts, but overall it kept my attention. Thumbs up for the genre-
A movie for the artistic goth
This film often gets compared to the film 8MM by it critics. That film due to a higher budget and larger production staff was able to make and distribute 8MM a year after RACHEL'S ATTIC was in post.
The story is about Rachel who is searching for her missing sister who had become involved in an underground S&M community (Not Porn). In order to find her sister she becomes immersed in the community only to discover that a greater danger is feeding off this industry.
Now, IMH(yet biased)O, this was an ambitious project that yielded a film that IS worth watching. But, just like Lynch and Cronenberg isn't for everyone, you can find this film fascinating and disturbing. There are moments worthy of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3K and some serious situations that reflect the darker aspects of human need.
My only complaint is that Spectrum Films failed to include the extras and to divide the program into chapters. Fortunately the translation from 16mm (twice as good as 8mm) to DVD worked well and the sound is solid.
Unwatchable
It is not possible to sit through more than ten minutes of "Rachel's Attic" without wanting to rip your eyes out of their sockets. I didn't think it possible to see a film that is so monumentally bad on every level. Lighting, acting, shot composition, music, sound mix, and what the creators of this film apparently try to pass of as a "story" all add up to what is possibly the worst film ever created. And what's more, it's 16mm, meaning that someone spent an awful lot of money on this one.
Please, for the love of God, and your own respect for the art of cinema, avoid "Rachel's Attic" at all costs.
