The DVD player employs progressive scan technology to render seamless, flicker-free images on high-definition and HD-ready TVs. Progressive scanning, called 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture with twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The enhanced frame rate makes DVD movies look as good (or better) than they do in the theater.
Adding to the DVD player's value is its support for audio CDs, CD-R/RWs, VCDs, SVCDs, and even MP3 files burned on a CD-R disc. Users can even watch JPEG slideshows through the digital photo viewer, and then play an MP3 soundtrack over the top. And to enjoy the best possible sound, viewers can connect the DVD player to an A/V surround receiver via the coaxial and optical digital outputs. The device supports both Dolby Digital and DTS surround formats, along with virtual surround sound.
A final bonus stems from the onboard, no-fee GUIDE Plus+ Gold interactive TV guide, which makes it easier than ever to schedule recordings on the DVR. Viewers simply locate the program they want to record on the easy-to-navigate display and then hit the timer button. The device also supports one-touch recording should you want to record a show immediately.
Additional features include multiple inputs and outputs, including an iLink DV input and component and S-video outputs; a multilingual onscreen display (English, French, and Spanish); and a multibrand remote control. The DRS7000N measures 16.9 by 3.9 by 14.4 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and a 90-day warranty on labor.

Customer Reviews of RCA SCENIUM Digital Media Recorder with DVD Player (DRS7000N)
I love it I sure I am a little late in looking for it, but I have wanted a DVR that can work like a VCR without having to pay a monthly subscription in order to use it.
Don't know what people are complaining about!
My wife and I absolutely love this unit in conjunction with our DirecTV. Frankly, we don't use the Guide+ because we have the DirecTV grid. Yes, we have to manually set the record time on the DMR, but it takes about 45 seconds and can be set for once, everyday, M -F or whatever you want. I think the complainers must be those who could never figure out how to set the clock on their VCR.
Could've done better
I bought the Rca drs 7000n in Jul. of 2004 from Shop At home. When I got it it took forever to download the T.V. listings. I also had to call RCA a whole bunch of times. Although they gave good customer service, it took me days before I found the right way to download schedules. Then I made recordings early in the morning and Ilost the T.V. listings and had to re download them. Like other reviews I agree that there is a mystery time to download late at night. Then I could't get a file name of the hard drive. So I faked the machine out by making it think a file was older than the stuck file. This made the machine work fine again until I couldn't watch recordings beuse the video window was locked. Shop at Home had very good customer service and gave me all of my money back that I had paid including S and H. RCA had a good idea but dropped the ball by not getting the bugs out. The DVD player that is integrated worked fine. If I had read the other reviews above I would have never have bought it.
