Customer Reviews of RCA RP4010 Desktop CD Clock Radio with Remote Control
Do not buy! This clock radio sounds great but it has a major manufacturing defect. Other reviews have mentioned it. There is a loud clicking sound when you play cd's. This sound comes from the edge of the cd scraping against the interior of the cd tray (the little black pegs to be specific). Also there is a 3.25 inch CD that the manufacturer has built into the cd player as a sound demo for stores or something. This small CD is glued to the bottom of the device that holds the CD down causing this device to not sit correctly, which in turn causes the CD to wobble and to scrape the inside of the CD tray. <
>I purchased this clock radio and returned it to the RCA for repairs they sent me a new one (four weeks later) with the same problem. So, I cracked it open and fixed it myself. removing the 3.5" demo CD and scraping down the black plastic pegs. I am not recommending you do the same. What I am recommending is for everyone to avoid this clock radio. And if you already have it and you have the same problem don't send it back for repairs, just get your money back. <

Alarm Clock Design - Getting closer
I have tried them all: two versions of the Timex (poor sound, poor radio tuner), two versions of the Philips (poor radio tuner, slightly better sound, cd broke too quickly), and this one. The main thing these alarm clocks have in common is they let you sleep on the weekends (or any two consecutive days).

>So far the RCA is the best of the bunch. The digital radio tuner tunes fairly well (if it had an antenna, it probably could do better), and the sound is quite nice. It's missing an aux in (for my mp3 player/laptop) but doesn't really need an aux out. The footprint is quite large, it could have been designed a bit more compactly.

>The major issue with this unit is that after 3 months, the cd player started making a nasty noise, and now on occasion won't play at all. What a bummer.
Warning!!! CD player is very loud
I liked the idea of a clock radio/CD player with a remote. But...the CD player is very loud. I mean...you can hear the CD spinning! The motor, I mean. Just awful. I have had to play the CD while putting two CD cases under the radio. Leaving the radio tilted about three inches off the table. Only then does the wizzing sound of the CD stop. Just awful!!! You can hear the motorized spinning sound. For $79, not worth keeping. I am returning. This was my second one, by the way. Beware! Do not buy!!!
