Customer Reviews of Python
"Awesome movie! Shove over Anaconda!" Although the "Anaconda" snake affects were much better, this still is a good movie. "Python" does have its share of gore and sexuality, but not language (which doesn't really matter to me). I liked the performances by Robert Englund and Casper Van Dien. Van Dien played Special Agent Parker, Robert Englund was Dr. Rudolph. Van Dien was really cool in this movie, although he looks sort of rediculous with that mustache. In the movie, Van Dien has an English accent but at the same time he has a Southern drawl. The scene at the beginning with the two women was NOT cool, but the very first sequence with the plane crash is awesome, probably my favorite scene. One of my biggest complaints is the Python's roar, it sounds like it came from an early '50s horror movie. A good roar for this big snake would be the combination roar of a T-Rex from "Lost World" and the "Predator", but I guess this one is fine too. One of my other complaints is the scenes that show the Python's snake-skin, it's way to small for a 170 foot reptile. I wish the 20th Century Fox would combine the monster from the movie "Crocodile" with this Python. In other words the Python and Crocodile should fight each other. Or at least there could be a sequel where the Python returns with another snake. Buy the movie it's great!!
Dumb, sure, but enjoyably so.
Python doesn't take itself seriously at all, and that's important to remember when reading a lot of these reviews. Python isn't trying to be Anaconda. It's just a silly giant killer snake movie with a silly-looking giant killer snake (I'm sorry, but CGI just looks so incredibly fake when improperly mixed with real live-action footage... I miss the days of "The Thing" with real, honest-to-goodness special effects), silly accents, silly moustaches, and silly performances all around.
The plot's a bit wacky... Casper Van Dien (who is not only supposed to play an NSA agent but a SOUTHERN NSA agent.. with a John Waters moustache!) shows up for little more than a cameo, but it's great to see a bunch of B-grade young character actors (Dana Barron, David Bowe, Sean Whalen, Jeith Coogan, John Franklin, Wil Wheaton, and, while not young, someone who overacts with the best of 'em, Robert Englund) chewing scenery like mad.
And, heck, it's got a cute lesbian scene. Dumb, enjoyable fun that everyone clearly had a good time making.
Sssssssssssss-ucks!
Wil Wheaton stages a comeback! Hooray! Actually, he's just there to get eaten, somewhere towards the end of the movie. And whoopee!!!-a Jenny McCarthy cameo, too! (Sorry, boys. She keeps her top on.) I have to ask: can a big snake really knock someone's head off with its tail in one swipe? Seriously, I want some biology experts to weigh in on this. I have to know, just to restore some of McCarthy's character's well-earned dignity.
But wait... here comes Robert Englund of "Nightmare on Elm Street" fame! Surely HE will make this movie worth watching! Unfortunately, after countless scenes of stroking the python's fragile ego, he wanders off to get killed somehow. (A disappointment, really. I propose another sequel... "Freddy vs. Python"!)
By the way, everything else about this movie is terrible, too.
