Customer Reviews of Pulp Fiction (Limited Edition Collector's Set)
The best movie of the past decade Pulp Fiction remains the most powerful movie of the past decade. Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece recieves its much deserved special edition treatment with plenty of goodies. We have some behind the scenes look at the making of some of the sequences of Pulp Fiction, interviews with cast and crew, award ceremonies where Pulp Fiction was named winner, and some very interesting facts revolving around how the movie was made and what was used on screen. The movie also features a subtitled commentary on the film with important, if you are a big fan, information for each shot or scene.
Put this big load of features aside, the movie itself is worth owning this DVD for. What can I not say about Pulp Fiction. It is a perfect 10 movie when it comes to scaling fairly. Tarantino put all of his heart, effort and witty talent on paper and then transformed the words into images that created this film. Whatever Tarantino made afterwards wouldn't matter, he will still be viewed as the modern day film revolution starter. Yes, Pulp Fiction was a revolutionary piece of work. The film mixes violence with humor in a way that I have not seen before. The dialogue is the highlight of Pulp Fiction, you will do more listening to Pulp Fiction than actually watching it. You can literally close your eyes and still enjoy Pulp Fiction. Tarantino uses imitations of real life conversations between his characters that makes you feel intimate with these people onscreen. Our leading gangsters Vincent Vega, played brilliantly by John Travolta, and Jules Winfield's, played even more brilliantly by Samuel Jackson, conversation about Amsterdam, the metric system and what they put on french fries in Holland instead of Ketchup (mayonnaise!) on their way to finish a kill is both hilarious as it seems realistic. The graphics are a combination of Tarantino now reknowned trademark; gangsters in black suits; with a touch of homage to his favorite films, whether its blaxploitation flicks; Samuel Jackson's hairdo; or Deliverance type thrillers; the infamous rape scene; or Samurai ninja flicks; the sword Bruce Willis uses to kill some very bad guys. Yet, you get the sense of Tarantino's inspirations with the soundtrack. The music that Tarantino produced himself and added to many scenes of his movie is a combination of R&B; Al Green's Let's Stay Together; Funk; Kool And The Gang's Jungle Boogie; and western/country; counting Flowers On The Wall.
This makes Pulp Fiction not just a movie but one big entertainment experience that stood, and still stands, the test of time.
If you haven't been Pulp Fiction-ized yet, well its about time.
This special edition is a must-have

Gotta Get To Jack Rabbit Slim's
It's been about 10 years since I sat myself down and had the Pulp Fiction experience. I took another look at this film after watching Tarantino's recent tour de force "Kill Bill". Must has been said about Pulp Fiction, from being a violent bloodfest to a spiritual journey; but one thing is certainly true: Pulp Fiction is a cinematic classic.
Pulp Fiction is really three films wrapped in one: the story of two hitmen sent out on a job to retrieve a briefcase, a boxer asked to throw a fight, and an actress with a habit that nearly kills her. These stories are intertwined effectively and effortlessly, the seems between them are negligible, so when one character from another story suddenly pops up in another one, its understandable.
It took Tarantino's vision to pull this off. Clearly, he's at the forefront of this movie, from its look and style. First, the sharp script, dialogue heavy, is extremely well written. When the Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield dish about Amsterdam McDonald's burgers, you realize you are listening to golden words. This isn't your average violent flick.
What also sets Pulp Fiction apart from your average violent flick is that much of the direct violence is never seen, or handled offscreen. Give Tarantino credit for making us think it's a bloodfest, but in reality, other films that have violent scenes that run for ten minutes, compared to Fictions quick scenes, you see the difference. Tarantino manages to build suspense and tension, in order for us to think it's more violent than it is.
In addition to that scene, the other classic scene occurs between Vincent Vega and Uma's slinky Mia Wallace at Jack Rabbit Slim's. I was totally entranced by the absolute perfection that scene has. From the stylistic 50's diner atmosphere, to the oddly weird and normal twist contest Mia and Vincent enter, it's brilliant from start to finish.
Pulp Fiction is a cinematic feast from beginning to end. Thanks to Quention for preparing it for us, and may we gorge for many years to come.
Quentin Tarantino's best before Kill Bill
This classic by Quentin Tarantino was the first ultra-violent movie and it was fantastically well executed. An American Independent movie at its best.
