Customer Reviews of Protector (1985)
ORIGINAL IS WAAY BETTER~! If you want UNCUT ORIGINAL version, ALWAYS look for ORIGINAL LICENSED Production. NOT US Release. Its a foreign film, it should not be US version to begin with~! HELLO!!!?? Why settle for LESS with US Version where they edit and cut so many excellent scenes especially with Jackie's Fighting Scenes. And US Release ruins the speed and sound as well. I have been collecting Jackie Chan's movies both HK and US Release Version for quite some time now. I found HK Version to be MUCH MORE in enjoyable, and HIGHER in Quality. American Market always like to "Americanize" and "Control". Regional Code Regulation thing is one of the example to CONTROL the Market. Why not let everyone enjoy the same HK Original Release move the same way ENTIRE WORLD enjoys it ?? No one makes Hollywood American movies to "French version" or "Chinese Version" ~! This what Americans are doing~! Well, enjoy the cheap "American version" then~! LOL
Misunderstood
I haven't read all the reviews for this film so I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this stuff, but...

>The producers, etc. didn't get what made Jackie successful in Hong Kong and rather than make a "Jackie Chan" film and inviting his input, they tried to make him 'fit' Hollywood and made a typical cop flick starring Chan. The film works for what it was, but falls short of what a true Jackie Chan film can be.

>The reviewer for Amazon apparently missed the point of the naked women processing the drugs stating their nakedness was "inexplicable". Although not stated in the movie (perhaps the reason why he didn't get it?) the women are nude to prevent them from stealing from the drug dealers by hiding some in their clothing (obviously they do have one or two places they could hide it, but we won't get into that).

>Obviously this isn't Jackie's finest hour, but taken for what it is, overall not a bad film. Danny Aiello is a riot.
Underrated Jackie Chan movie should please action fans
What was so bad about this movie?! I liked it! It was very exciting and it's full of action. Sure, Jackie Chan didn't do his best fight scenes here, But the good gunfights and the cool scenes make up for it. Here's the plot: Two nyc cops [Jackie Chan and Danny Aiello] set out to bust up a drug operation which takes them all the way to hong kong when the mayor's daughter is kidnapped and held for ransom. It's true that Jackie Chan's character in this movie is very aggressive and very serious [As well as profane]. But, that's one thing that attracted me to this movie. Only thing that bothered me about this movie was the fact that Jackie Chan never did get a chance to show off his true martial arts capabilities in any of the fight scenes in this movie. Sure, The acting isn't that good but what do you expect from an action film? This is actually one of my favorite action films that came from the 80s. There's no comedy in this movie, This is just a straight-up, Raw in-your-face action film. This movie is far better than what many people claim it is. This movie proves that Jackie Chan can handle movies that require him to go out of his usual character. Sure, This movie was a flop when it was released in 1985. But, To me, I still can't see why this movie wasn't a hit! If anything, This movie should be credited with being one of the buddy cop movies that inspired ''Lethal Weapon'' [A classic movie that this movie predates by 2 years] and ironically, This movie should be credited as the inspiration for ''Rush Hour'' [Which also starred Jackie Chan, That movie is really a tamer more humorous version of this]. If you're an action fan, Give this a try. But be prepared to see Jackie Chan in a way you never thought you'd see him. This movie also served as the inspiration to ''Police Story'', Which was better than this and is still Jackie's best movie to date. This was Jackie Chan's 2nd american film. Hope my review helped. Have a nice day. Be blessed.
