Customer Reviews of Process of Belief
If you're buying this for Shattered Faith... DON'T SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY: Shattered Faith can also be found on the Punk O'Rama Vol. 8 set, along with the Bad Religion track Who We Are.
The best Bad Religion album in years...
This album marked the full time return of founding band member Brett Gurewitz to Bad Religion and you can totally see what an integral part of the band he was. That's not to say the albums without Gurewitz (Gray Race, No Substance, New America) were horrible. Those albums had many memorable tracks, but as a whole, they had many weak spots and some poor songs.
The Process of Belief as an album, is like albums such as Stranger Than Fiction and Against the Grain, in that it's powerful song writing from start to finish. Greg Graffin has openly admitted that he is at his best with Gurewitz as a partner in song writing. This can be seen in the first 3 tracks of the album "Supersonic," "Prove It" and "Can't Stop It" - all short fast and powerful. Then there are some great songs that question the socio-political events going on in the world embodied in songs such as "Kyoto Now" and "Sorrow."
The only flaw on this album is the domestic version doesn't have the extremely brilliant "Shattered Faith" on it. That song made me purchase the Japanese import, because not only is it good, it makes the album feel more complete. Complete because the song concludes what is perhaps Bad Religion's deepest look at religion with a position. After all processes do have beginings and ends.
