Customer Reviews of PortAbout 5 Premier Travel System in Telluride
Way To Go Evenflo!!!!! They finally got it right with their new 2004 Portabout 5 travel system!!! I have a previous version of the portabout 5 travel system and it does not even compare to this one. They added so much more storage, wider wheels, better fabrics, a seat stabilizer, etc. The fabric on this one is so nice it is made of faux suede and a satiny "parachute" type material. The stroller has a new harness style. It is still 3 pt but has a piece in the center to push and will unlatch both sides of the belts. On the old one you had to unlatch each side individually so this makes it a little easier. Also, the seat on the stroller actually sits straight up on this one! The other one I have does not. This one does not lay quite as flat as my other however but it is very close to laying flat. Evenflo also changed the parent and child trays too! The parent tray has a bag attached to the underneath of it to store items, a covered compartment on top with a mini makeup bag/mirror attached to the underside of it, 2 cup holders with "snuggies" to hold the cups in and also 2 additional holders that swing open from the tray! The kids tray has an added compartment for snacks and a plug to attach toys to it. The 2 storage bags on the sides of the stroller snap on and off as well as the stroller bag on the back of the seat which functions like a diaper bag. Even the boot on the front of the stroller has a pocket to store items! The basket now has more compartments including a cell phone pocket and a cargo net over it. The canopy has a larger window on top of it and mesh on the sides for air. Even the color of the stroller is pretty cool...I am not sure what color it is considered but it looks like it is a metallic color (sparkly looking). The car seat is pretty much the same as the old portabout 5 but they added a notch on the front right side of it. This is for when using the car seat and stroller as a travel system. You hook this rubber piece on the stroller over the notch on the car seat so it is now secured in the front of the seat as well as latching onto the stroller bar. Also, the headrest on the car seat is alot nicer than the older style and it actually hooks on so it stays put not like their old ones which just lay in the seat and fall down, etc. all the time. The canopy seems to have been improved too though I am not sure. On my old seat the handle always rubs on the canopy and knocks it back, it does not on this one. The only thing I still do not like about evenflo though is their car seat base. I do not think they stay to well in the car with the LATCH system they use- they move too much. I think with a ridgid LATCH system it would be the perfect system! But that is just my opinion... Anyway, I would recommend this system to anyone!

We were given this travel system as a baby shower gift. My main concern is that baby's snack tray. As you can see by the way the stroller folds, either the snack tray or the fabric on the seat is going to be open to anything in your trunk. If you keep anything in your trunk the fabric will get stuff on it and the snack tray will get scratched getting it in and out of the trunk.
That was my main concern with the stroller, the car seat I hated. Even after getting it completely level, the seat still seemed to be too upright. Even using a double headrest, my sons little head still hanged.
We returned the travel system and got the Graco Quattro Tour Travel system instead (what we originally had asked for). We love it. Our son does wonderfull in the car seat when level. His head never hangs. And the stroller is a dream. After folding it up the seat and tray that your child touches is protected in your trunk. The only thing that touched the floor in you trunk is the wheels as it should be.

We picked this travel system out because it was the highest rated in Consumer Reports for carseat safety. It only took about 20 minutes to put it together. The hardest part was getting the canopy to fit properly onto the carseat because the instructions are not too clear on that-- but once on, it's not going anywhere. I love this system! It's so easy to move. And I love that the stroller seat does not have to be reclined in order to use the infant seat; thus, allowing you to take full advantage of all the neat storage compartments. The only problem that we have with the stroller (we didn't deduct any points becuase we knew it was going to be a problem with any stroller) is that it is so tall. I am 5'2" and my husband is 6'4" so we knew that we were going to have a hard time finding a stroller to fit us both. Which is another reason why we opted for this system. The one hand steering is at such a place that it makes up for the stroller being so tall. So, either one of us can drive comfortably. If you're looking for a good travel system check consumer reports first, you would be surprised what carseats did and did not pass the safety test. If you're still having doubts then email Evenflo- which is what we did. We wanted to make sure that if we were spending $200 on a travel system that it was backed up with good Customer Service. They offered us some valuable advice and helped us locate a dealer that would ship to Alaska. They were also able to tell us which products are returned the most and which ones have had the most/fewest faults. Something to keep in mind if you're looking at a 5+ year investment. Good Luck in your search!
