The MX6000i is equipped to access online services directly or to stream digital media like music, pictures, and movies from the hard disk of a networked PC (using the supplied PC Link software). When the system is hooked up to a widescreen TV, you'll enjoy all this multimedia content in the comfort of your living room. Wireless connectivity based on the 802.11b and .11g standards gives you the choice of connecting the MX6000i to cable or DSL broadband services through either a wireless network router or a wired Ethernet connection. Another feature of Philips' Streamium technology is upgradeability. You can upgrade the MX6000i via the Internet, adding new services and features like online games and access to Web-based photo albums, futureproofing the system against obsolescence and changing standards.

Six integrated 75-watt audio amplifiers drive the stereo speakers, the matching rear speakers, a center speaker, and two subwoofers built into the rear speaker columns. The system's four two-way (three-driver) satellite speakers acoustically match the tonal characteristics of the center speaker. Front left, right, and center speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent any interference with your television image.
The system's Class D digital amplifier takes an analog signal, converts it into a digital signal, and then amplifies it, producing strong, clear sound at high efficiency and with low distortion. Philips's ClearVoice technology ensures accurate dialogue separation in the action scenes of a movie, and you can adjust the speaker settings using the remote to achieve optimum sound immersion and listening enjoyment. The system's tuner offers AM/FM digital tuning with 40 presets (including an autostore facility and RDS display for station name and program type). Eco-power standby mode reduces power consumption to less than one watt.

Customer Reviews of Philips Streamium MX6000i 5-DVD Home Theater System with Wi-Fi Connectivity
Streamium rocks! I bought my Streamium MX6000i a few months back and it just keeps getting better. I didn't have any of the setup issues descibed by other owners (I've been in the computer field for over 14 years). I thought the setup was pretty straight forward (I only had to refer to the manual once). New services and updates are available on a regular basis. I create slideshows with pictures taken on my digital camera. My wife still likes the 35mm camera so we can view those pictures via Yahoo!. My next purchase will be a Philips flat-panel TV. <

Buggy execution unresponsive service - stay away
Pros - when it works:
<
>- Great sound
<
>- Lots of functionality
<
>- Good looks
<
>- Being connected: internet radio, automatic firmware upgrades downloaded, online user forum (see below)
<
>
<
>Cons:
<
>- DVD door sticks open, won't read DVDs at all
<
>- If it does read a DVD, it crashes 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through it
<
>- Unable to stream videos from the PC over 1.2 mbps bitrate, meaning you can't stream DVD quality movies at all
<
>- Streaming of content at any bitrate, from PC or web, periodically crashes and requires system reboot (especially annoying when using the internet radio during a dance party...)
<
>- System won't play through multiple discs in sequence nor will it shuffle across discs
<
>- Occasionally system won't play discs at all and needs to be reset (unplug power for 30 seconds, then reconnect holding standby button pushed down)

>My unit has been at the authorized service center for 4 months now, waiting for a new motherboard - it is backordered, and Philips will not tell the service center or me how long it will take. I have called Philips several times: each time they promise someone in Consumer Relations will call back, but no-one ever has.

<
>Some of the issues may be solved in future firmware upgrades, but the company doesn't publish what will be included nor when it will be available.

<
>For more information on users' experience with this system, check out the online forum accessible through Philips' website. You'll see the issues I outline above are common to this model - mine is not an isolated case!

>On balance, I would have shopped around more before buying. If I could start again, would settle on a more robust pure home theater system together with a dedicated streaming media device.
Finally something gets my PC content to the living room
This thing is really cool. I can control my DVDs, FM and above all the audio / video stuff on my computer using one single remote.

>Setup was really quick and simple (it could be because I have played with computers and wireless connections for a while).

>Sounds wualityu is pretty good too....may not match high end HTs like Bose etc... but its not bad at all for the price.
