Eye Fidelity provides the choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques--progressive or interlaced--so you can reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping, viewing material in progressive scan (480p) or a line doubled (1050i) picture.
Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.
A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture. Further, a feature called Active Control continuously analyzes incoming signals and optimizes picture color, sharpness, contrast, and digital noise reduction 60 times per second.
The set offers stereo reception with 10 watts power per stereo speaker, and onboard Incredible Surround processing simulates surround sound from any two speakers.
Two sets of high-definition component-video inputs (1080i/480p) accommodate a set-top box/HD satellite receiver and a progressive-scan DVD player, while side and rear composite- and S-video inputs accommodate other hardware. Rear-panel audio/video outputs make it a cinch to hook the set up with your home theater surround receiver for a truly immersive AV experience. A 0.125-inch headphone jack lets you listen in private. The set includes an NTSC tuner for standard TV reception and comes with a universal remote control.

cant be fixed !!! i bought this tv with a extended warranty from Conns in Conroe Tx. had vertical lines because of the wide screen.it looks bad on black screens it has a updated driver (transformer) conns put it in. problem is better but still there. conns will not replace it unless phillips will say it is a design flaw and phillips only will say it is a abnormality! Conns supose to replace it with another of equal value.or refurbished. this problem cant be fixed. and Conns warranty has too many things in it to cover them and not me. worthless!!!! phillips have never herd of customer service. let the buyer beware of extended warranty companies and of any phillips product.
Terrible TV from Philips
I purchased a 'renewed' television from Philips Outlet. The purchase came with a 90 day warranty. Shortly after one month, the television began spontaneously turning off. I took the unit to an authorized repair shop as Philips directed. After 45 days and many phone calls, the repair shop returned the television and said it was fixed; however, when I brought the TV home, it was not fixed and I experienced the same problems. I contacted Philips and the repair shop immediately. Following another month of the repair shop waiting on Philips for direction (wondering if they should attempt a second repair or replace the unit) and many more phone calls, I was recently told by Philips that my warranty had expired and they would no longer fix the problem (even though the problem that occurred when it was under warranty was never fixed).

>When the TV works, it's nice. But I want to warn others about Philips customer service. I'll never buy from Philips again...
Nice, but has its problems.
I bought this tv over a year ago for $800. The pictures is nice and the only picture problems I have is because I have basic cable. DVD picture is definitely nice. I haven't had any major visual problems. I only have two problems I would like to add to all these others:
<
>
<
>1. TV has a long start up, which Philips considers normal (under 20 sec). I believe it usually at least takes five seconds to start up.

>2. If you accidently hit the off button on the remote and try to turn the TV back on quickly, the TV locks up and will stay in "half on" state. The green light is on, but dim and there is no picture. To get the TV out of this state you have to get up and unplug the TV and plug it back in. This sucks since we have a big armoire that we have to move a bit to reach the plug.
