Customer Reviews of Perfect Height Swing with Mini Maestro
Wonderful features don't matter if the swing won't swing. I loved the idea of this swing and put it on my baby registry after reading a couple of glowing reviews (at the time those were the only ones). I loved the idea of it being higher for newborns and locking in place for feedings. I also read that the music from the mini maestro was quite pleasant. Well, all those things were true. In addition, it is extremely easy to put together. However, I'm on my second Perfect Height Swing and I'm not happy about it. The first one had to be returned as soon as we first put it together because it just wouldn't swing. I decided to give the swing a second try because of all the wonderful features. After waiting through the return process, I finally received my replacement swing when my son was already 2 months old (and didn't even need the newborn position anymore). Now he is 4 months old and it completely stopped swinging yesterday. I am extremely disappointed. I am writing Kolcraft and, as other reviewers have said, they will probably send me a replacement motor but I find it all to be a pain. Goodness knows that with a 4 month old baby, I have better things to do with my time than sit on-line trying to convince a company to send me replacement parts--then wait for them before my son can swing again. There are better swings out there. There have to be. There are definitely more reliable swings out there. In addition, the motor is not my only complaint about this swing. I find the seat belt to be a little flimsy. I've still got my son in the reclined position because, quite frankly, I'm a little afraid to have him in the forward position. It looks a bit steep to me and, at this age, babies lunge forward a lot and I truly believe he could catapult himself out of the seat belt--maybe not all the way but he would at least be hanging forward, suspended by his lovely chunky thighs. Humorous but dangerous and completely unacceptable. Also, the toys on the mini maestro attachment are a little out of my son's reach and he is not small. He is 27" and 17.5 pounds and is definitely at the grabbing age, so he gets frustrated with the toys. If I had it to do again, I would buy a simple swing and purchase the First Years 4 Stage Feeding Seat as an economical alternative to the high chair feature of this swing. Even if you end up paying a little more money, it would save a lot of frustration and you could take the feeding seat out to friends' homes and restaurants.
DEFINITELY worth the money
I read the reviews regarding high battery usage but bought this unit anyway. I'm so glad I did. We have had this unit running daily for 3 months now (son is 3 months old) and have NEVER had to replace the batteries. Out of the 10 battery operated items we use (rockers, bouncers, strollers with music...etc - this is the only item which does NOT need constant battery replacement)
THe swing has a 'recline' position for infants which takes the pressure off their spine and has multiple swing speeds. It also comes with 2 trays - one resembles a high chair tray and the other snaps onto that one and plays music. THe music is orchestrial which is great and it does have a 'zzz' setting which stops the lights from flashing and quiets the music down to a lulliby.
The swing motor is durable and after being dropped, hit and basically abused by moving - the unit works fine. It is attractive and we use it to entertain him with the music/lights OR when its time for his 10am nap, I place him here and put on the gentle swing and in 5 minutes, he is asleep.
I really recommend this item - the batteries DO last (3 months and going strong) and the music does have adjustments.
BTW: because of the wide base, you will need a good space for this item but its understandable why the base was created with such width - this way it does not fall over, very stable
