Potpourri of Pink
Penthouse DVD's have come under a bit of criticism as of late and deservedly so. Seems many of their productions feature B-list porn stars and are butchered in the editting process. The exceptions are the ones directed by Nicholas Guicionne and this one is a very good effort by Nicholas.

The only regular porn star of the bunch is Cheyenne Silver, and she actually looks good in this one, a seductive opening scene with lots of pink and a little light finger-play.

Victoria Zdrok (a former Playmate of the Month) shows more pink in her scenes than you've ever seen from a Playmate, she even offers a slightly obscured backdoor entry, a bit of a shockwer to be sure. She also teams up with Cheyenne and a big purple toy in a girl/girl set and finally a three girl poolside session that is fairly hot. If you're a fan of Victoria, you will love her scenes.

Kyli Ryan just does one solo scene, it delivers Penthouse style, with the kind of explicit poses you would expect. She's a very pretty dark haired girl, it would have been nice to see just a little more of her.

Courtney Taylor is a lithe, sexy blonde who really opens up in the Penthouse tradition in her scenes. She's also involved in the three-way with Victoria.

The hottest model just might be Stephanie Wood. She is a fresh looking pure blonde with an incredibly fit, tight body and rather decent sized breasts. And she really gets explicit with her pink poses, you'd think you were in a gynocologist's office. Her scene takes place in a sauna, so this statuesque bod is glistening in sweat, only adding to the intensity. She also has a girl-girl session with Courtney that has some very quick wide open shots too.

So this production to me is on par with many previous Penthouse "Play-Off" editions and much better than the lame "College Cuties" or "Starlet Villa". If you like any of the models in this one, it's a fine DVD to get.

Is it just me, or does Penthouse seem to be a little loose with handing around the title of "Pet" these days? That's not an aspersion on the women themselves but on Guccione and crew. It used to be that some of the Pets would eventually cross fully over into adult movies after their magazine feature. Nowadays it seems that almost every girl featured as a Pet of the Month already has a slew of videos out. At least two of these ladies have been featured in much harder stuff (Silver and Zdrok), and I wouldn't be surprised if at least one more had some more explicit titles under her belt. If I wanted to watch porn stars, I'd go rent/buy/download porn. I want to see models that you might not usually see anywhere other than the pages of Penthouse.
Okay, now my opening rant is out of the way. For starters, this has got to be the lowest budget-looking Play-Off/Pet of the Year series entry I have ever seen. While the Paige Summers & Friends selection from 1997 had terrible film quality, the production was at least decent. In several sequences you can see boom mikes drifting into view as well as the second camera -and I'm not talking little slip-ups. I'm talking, "hey there's a friggn' movie camera right next to Stephanie Wood's head! Hey it's still there after five seconds!"
Content-wise, this is also a pretty drab affair. Each girl gets her own solo section in the following order: Cheyenne, Kyli, Victoria, Courtney, and Stephanie. None of these sections really push the boundaries of softcore erotica like other titles. Where's Suzette Spencer when you need her? Kyli is probably the nicest surprise in the group as she's got the body of a real women, sans plastic surgery. There's even a little meat on her bones. Courtney is also pretty good looking, as is Stephanie. Victoria looks kind of strange with her weird collagen lips and raised cheekbones. It doesn't help that there are many bleached out close-ups of her trying to look erotic. Instead she looks freaky. In her solo scene, she's also cinched at the waist by a corset that causes her hips to look positively unnatural. Her clumsy attempts at dancing are also painful to watch, but interestingly enough this is the only solo scene with any sort of pay-off, and not the type associated with the lovely Sunny Leone in Pets in Paradise. Cheyenne is so-so. At least she has a fresh-looking face. Wish I could say the same about her hands.
At the end of Stephanie's scene starts three girl-girl sequences. Courtney joins Ms. Wood briefly and the camera cuts right after it starts getting hot. Cheyenne and Victoria show up and do some somewhat harder stuff, only to be followed by another scene with the two doing it again; joined by Courtney. These scenes are rushed and feel really clumsy. The girls do not look like they're enjoying themselves, and there's little to no eroticism. Of course it also comes in at just over 49 minutes -a new record short in Penthouse history.
Not to sound cruel, but these girls also seem to lack the overall knock-out looks of many of Penthouse's past Pets. Last year we got Ava Vincent, Aria Giovanni, Suzette Spencer, and the drop-dead gorgeous Sunny Leone (who deservingly won). I'm sorry, but none of these women hold a candle to their predecessors.
Pros: Kyli Ryan's natural body, Stephanie Wood's natural heat, Victoria Zdrok's little finger slip into an unexpected area.
Cons: Very little screen time for Kyli Ryan or Stephaine Woods, major overuse of Victoria Zdrok, light overuse of Cheyenne Silver, "artsy" washed-out close-ups, extremely short and rushed.
