Customer Reviews of Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?/So Far, So Good...So What!/Rust in Peace
3 different line-ups, 3 awesome albums This box set contains Megadeth's second, third, and fourth album, all of which have a different guitarist and drummer. Read on for each album's track reviews:
PEACE SELLS (1986):
Wake up Dead: Thrash classic, but a bit generic. B+
The Conjuring: Another generic thrasher for the most part. B+
Peace Sells: This thrasher features some of Dave's best lyric work, so it's only natural it became a hit. A
Devil's Island: Another thrash track, but the excellent chorus makes up for it. A-
Good Mourning/Black Friday: A melodic session soon becomes an EXTREMELY fast and heavy one. KILLER TRACK. A+
Bad Omen: All out generic thrasher. B+
I Ain't Superstitious: A lighter track which is actually a cover song. It combines a classic rock feel with the one all Megadeth's own. A-
My Last Words: This Diamond Head inspired rocker features some of the band's bestt instrument usage. A
SO FAR (1988):
Into the Lungs of Hell: Light instrumental that soon becomes a heavier one. Good as an album starter but not much else. B+
Set the World Afire: Extremely fast and heavy. Enough said. A-
Anarchy in the U.K.: Megadeth covers the Sex Pistols, and it proves to be one of their WORST earlier efforts. The style fusion didn't work great here. C+
Mary Jane: Eighties Megadeth at its best. This track combines heavy and melodic stuff perfectly.
502: Hard rocker with sweet instrumental usage and some of Dave's best vocals to date. A
In My Darkest Hour: Dark and slow, Dave pays tribute to deceased Metallica bassist Cliff Burton here. This dark side is AWESOME. A+
Liar: Mid-fast tempo hard rocker. Strong effort. A
Hook in Mouth: Fairly generic hard rocker. B-
RUST IN PEACE (1990):
Holy Wars...The Punishment Due - Mid-tempo hard rocker which proves to be a masterpiece. Enough said. A+
Hangar 18 - Part one is an awesome mid-tempo hard rocker. Part two is a completely different sounding instrumental sequence with a killer guitar medley by Dave and Marty at 3:50. A+
Take No Prisoners - Mid-fast tempo hard rocker with its emphasis on vocal delivery. A
Five Magics - Dave uses a deeper voice in this track containing some damn fine riffs. A
Poison Was the Cure - Fast paced NWOBHM-based rocker which doesn't fail to please. A
Lucretia: Generic track, but it's got some nice riffs. A-
Tornado of Souls: Hard rocker using melodic elements. Good one. A
Dawn Patrol: Slow-paced hard rocker. Interesting experiment. A-
Rust in Peace... Polaris: Decent track overall, but it sounds too much like their earlier stuff. A-
3 albums, each of which is pretty cool. However, you may have an easier time buying them separately from your local record store instead of searching for this box set.
This C.D. kickes @$$
The best thing that Dave Mustaine could have done is leave metallica in the early 80`s.All of the true thrash hits are on here!!!!!!Classic Dave at his best!!!!!!!!!!
