Customer Reviews of Paul Rodgers: Live in Glasgow
The Ultimate Rock Singer I watched this DVD in amazement. I have seen Paul Rodgers quite a bit on the last few years and every time I hear him sing, it gives me chills. What a voice, what soul! There is none better. <

>Since he's moved to Canada, he does mostly Bad Co stuff on tour. This DVD has much more Free material, which I absolutely love. The tempo isn't quite the Free "groove and burn", it's a little too fast, but what a great rendition. The Free songs are magical. <

>Somehow the Bad Co tunes (particularly Feel Like Makin Love) sound a bit thin, but are still adequate. <

>The sound and production are superb. There are no special effects here. Just Paul Rodgers singing and playing his heart out with a tight band. <
> <
>You do miss Koss, Fraser and Kirke from time-to-time in the Free tunes, particularly in "I'm the mover". But the band creates its own path thru the songs, and it is very enjoyable. <

>If you like flawless singing with a terrific band playing blues/rock, this is for you. <

Amazing DVD of an amazing singer-guitarist-pianist
Paul Rodgers is the best voice in rock today. Of all the 1960s and 1970s singers, his voice has been preserved the most. It's almost magical how great he sounds in concert these days.

>This DVD is amazing. I am the biggest Free fan on earth, and in theory, it's hard for me to watch other musicians play Free's music, but Rodgers' solo band does a respectful, inspired job. The always dependable Howard Leese (from Heart; now with Rodgers since the early or mid-1990s) fires off great, tasteful solos without ever aping or making fun of the late great Paul Kossoff. Rodgers' solo bassist here, a classically trained violinist, does great fretwork on the five-string bass (he has hovercraft feet though - the boy can't stand still. ha.) Collective Soul's drummer is the one behind the kit here, and despite a week's worth of practice (and jetlag), he is great. Fans of Free, Bad Company, The Firm and all of Rodgers' solo efforts should pick this DVD up. The sound is fantastic - levels remain the same, instead of that annoying "dip and peak" level setting that plagues other concert DVDs. This disc will NOT disappoint.

Amazing
The disc opens with Free's I'll Be Creepin and first comes the drummer, then bass, then each of the two guitarists enter and join in. First, Heart's Howard Leese and then 17 year old Kurtis Denglar. Denglar's sound blew me away. Then Rodgers enters the stages and with the first line of, "if you're trying to screw me baby..." you know it's going to be an unbelievable show.

>Rodgers is flawless and I hope I look as fit as he does when I'm nearing 60 years old (I don't look that good now). The band is excellent, especially Leese and Denglar's solos. I only wish they included my favorite Bad Company song Rock Steady and let Denglar play the opening riffs.

>The song selection is heavy on Free material but that's fine because we have [[ASIN:B000067D3K In Concert: Merchants of Cool]] for the Bad Company stuff so it's great seeing the underappreciated Free songs get new life. The essential Free are all pretty much here, Alright Now, Wishing Well, the Stealer, the Hunter, Ride a Pony, Be My Friend, I'm a Mover and my favorite Fire and Water. Once you this DVD and are interested in seeing the original Free you need to get Free [[ASIN:B000HKDBFY Forever]].

>Finally, another thing I loved about this show is that's about the music (sorry for the cliche) but it's five guys in jeans just playing music. There some very effective basic lighting and no fancy graphic or elaborate stage production. The band is a bunch of guys I could relate to, no over abundance of tatoos or piercings (if any). Just great music.
