Customer Reviews of Panasonic Retro Shaver (PA858)
Nice design, great shaver I started with a really nice Braun in the early 1980's but have been using Panasonic for years because of the wet-dry feature. Shaving in the shower is easy and since I use soap, I don't worry about traveling with shaving lotion anymore. The Retro Shaver is nicely priced (got a refurb for $79.99) with all of the new technology, including the 17,000 rpm sonic cleaning mode. The silver casing, side trimmer, curved foil, and shorter overall length give it a cool look. It comes with the same travel pouch and power cord that comes with other Panasonic shavers. I could care less about the complex liquid bath, refresh stands that have become the rage. Remember, use it in the shower and use soap instead of shaving cream -- the razor will always be clean and fresh.
A Panasonic Flop
I've owned the Panasonic ES8068 for several years, and I figured it was time to buy a newer shaver. I bought the Retro and was disappointed as soon as I got it out of the box. It felt cheaply made. I charged it up and gave it a try anyway. First I tried the pop-up trimmer on the back and quickly gave up on that because it was harder to do sideburns than with my older model. Then I got into a shave and within 5 minutes I was putting it aside and going back to my older shaver. The Retro wasn't digging in as well as my older model, which meant I'd be spending more time shaving.

>This has to be Panasonic's worst attempt at a razor. It's more like a toy for kids who are starting to sprout peach fuzz. I would value this at a $20 shaver, not the nearly $130 I paid for it. I'm sticking with my older model and thinking of trying out a Braun when this one dies.
the little shaver that could
I purcahsed this shaver because I liked the retro look and thought I could always return it if I didn't like the shave. I've owned a Norelco Smart Xl and later got a Braun Activator. I can tell you that this little shaver gives a considerably better shave than Norelco and a slightly better shave than Braun. However, it doesn't come w/a cleaner or even a stand. Furthermore, it only has two blades instead of three like most of the other panasonic shavers. I've tried the more expensive Panasonic shavers & the truth is that I didn't notice any difference in the performance, although my skin was a bit more irritated. However, this could be due to the fact that my skin is not used to it yet. When this shaver first came out, it was $170, too expensive if you ask me. However, now that its $130, I must say that it's worth every penny.
