Customer Reviews of Panasonic KX-P7100 Duplex Laser Printer
cheap and easy duplex printing For a duplex printer it is very compact and doesn't need access around it or behind it. It prints duplex flawlessly and has a great feature that shrinks the pages down to 4 pages on a side or with the duplex 8 pages total on each page. It's a great way to save paper to review rough drafts. I did have an initially bad start when the printer was jamming all the time with 28lb laser paper; but after switching to cheaper 20lb copy paper it hasn't jammed once (after 6 months of heavy use). A great value -- I considered the cheapest HP duplex printer but it was almost twice as much and a lot bigger in size and I don't think it has the great shrink-down-to-4-pages-on-a-side feature. A better purchase might be the kx-p7305 which can be set up on a print server (unlike this one).
You get what you pay for
Pros: cheap, duplex functionality, energy efficient.
Cons: lots of paper jams, slow, XP compatibility issues.
More details: I had a lot of trouble installing the drivers on my Dell 4300 Desktop PC with XP Home Edition. I finally got it to be able to print, but every time I boot up the computer or turn on the printer, my PC tells me it has found a "new printer" -- the Panasonic KX-P7100 -- and it asks me if I want to install the drivers. I've tried everything I can think of including downloading the latest print drivers from the Panasonic website and installing them. I get the same result from both the USB or parallel port connection.
I liked the duplex functionality & energy efficiency of this printer. But it is kind of slow to print -- the time to the first page is long. I also get a slight skew of the printed image (about 1 degree). The manual feed is a pain and is very hard to print straight this way. I also found that the printer jams a lot (once a day or more).
Next time, I'll buy an HP laserjet printer.
Great features & price, but -- jams make it a poor buy
Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said here, fifty times? On paper it is a great printer at this price point. In practice the paper jams make it nearly intolerable.
What a shame.
