Customer Reviews of Pacifism and Pathology in the Amercian Left
A Very Fascinating listen. For those not familier with him, Ward Churchill is a well known radical activist and author. This latest CD of his is broken into two sections. The first part is a talk putting forth his argument. Loosely, the argument is that most pacifist movements in the American left are delusional, and relatively useless. His argument is, of course, a lot more complicated than that (but I'm not going to type his whole dissertation in this modest CD review). The second half of the CD is a discussion with the audience about this argument.
Ward Churchill is a wonderful speaker who researches his arguments very well. His talks are always stimulating and controversial. I honestly don't agree with many of his theories, but it is necessary to be open minded. A person can learn a lot by listening to the other side. A person can learn even more by listening to a very different perspective on the same side.
I consider myself a progressive, and though I may not completely agree with Ward Churchill, I found this talk to be extremely stimulating. As someone who considers himself a pacifist and an activist, Churchill's lecture has given me a lot to think about. I will definitely be listening to this CD again. I recommend this CD to almost anyone, especially activists and pacifists...as long as you are able to handle a critique and not take it personally.
