Customer Reviews of PS2 Major League Baseball 2K5
Great Game, Enough with EA Sports ALready Listen, I love EA Sports games just as much as the next person, but when it comes to baseball games EA blows. MVP is so boring its ridiculous. The commentators are lame, the actual gameplay is so realistic that its annoying at times and can become unrealistic. I honestly don't get why everyone is so fascinated with EA. No matter how good another sports game might be, no one can ever admit that it is a better sports game than EA. If a game is good, its good: period!. Enough ranting, here is my review. <

>MLB 2k5 is a great baseball game, but not without its flaws. First off, it has much more replay-ability than MVP. This is one of those games where you really can play through a whole 162 game season. Pitching is really fun and challenging. I love it. The only thing that sucks is that there is a passed ball glitch in the game that can become frustrating, especially in close games. The difficulty levels are perfect and the commentators are the best: HANDS DOWN. Franchise mode is great and you can turn off certain aspects of the game, such as hitters eye, etc.THe graphics are way better than MVP and the ballparks are exact replicas of the real ones. Personally, i love turning double plays and making diving catches and it is just so much more fluid in this game than in MVP. Your supposed to have fun when you play a video game, not be frustrated. <

>NOw the cons: THe graphics can be a bit jumpy at times. Also, it is pretty hard to hit a pitch outside of the strikezone. The game does look kind of sluggish at times, but overall it's not enough to make you not like the game. Had the makers of this game slowed down a bit and worked out the kinks, there wouldn't be a discussion of which game is better. <

>IN closing, if you are looking for a really fun, realistic baseball game with great commentary and high replayability, then MLB 2k5 is your choice.
Good Baseball Game...Needs a Bit of Tuning
I just recently traded in MLB 2005 for this game. Am I nuts? No, I wanted a change of scenery. Mlb 2k5 gives me that change and more. But it lacks depth, or lacks anything at all, in certain areas, and I will be going over the pros and cons in this review.

>Pros:
<
>
<
>Graphics are pretty good. The players look real and the stadium sweeps look absolutely realistic.
<

<
>The addition of a game overview by Carl Ravich is both fun and sometimes annoying. It is nothing but a timetaker to let the game load, so you do nothing except listen to him drone the pitcher's stats. It depends on who you ask about this one.

>John Miller and Joe Morgan are nothing short of fantastic. Their commentary is always right on, and almost never repeats itself. It actually sounds like these two are at the game your playing.

<
>Menu accesibility is good. I can smoothly go from one menu to another without having to autosave or something
<
>
<
>The Franchise has covered almost everything they needed to cover
<
>
<
>There are many different options on how to hit, field, etc.

<
>I like being able to control the runner or batter, like if you want a guy to steal. However, it is incredibly easy to steal in this mode. I started to run after the pitcher threw the ball, the catcher threw a strike, and I beat it standing up. ???

>Cons:
<

<
>Franchise mode is not deep at all. If you set the computer to do your lineups, it plays two people as shortstop. How bizarre?
<

<
>Batting interface kind of looks cheap. I don't like the look of the swing, or the way the running interface works. IT just feels kind of blah to me.
<
>
<
>Fielding is completely random. You either make Ozzie Smith catches or throw to the wrong base or whatever.
<
>
<
>The show-boat catches all look the same, and are an almost stupid addition.

>Pro/Con:
<
>
<
>This last depends on whether you like getting football scores are not. The slam zone. Basically when the pitcher makes a bad pitch a target appears. You can move your aiming target over this target and enter slam zone. Then the camera zooms in on the ball, then you try to power up and jack a 600 footer out of there. But sometimes, I'll have the meter completely filled up and I'll pop the ball up. Strange.

>Anyway, this game is mixed. Though I like it better than MVP. ITs your choice.
Good , but not great.
This game was dissapointing because it had high expectations, but it isn't horrible. I don't like the pitching because it is pretty hard to get the two circles to get together, and the graphics are kind of choppy, but still good. The things that i do like are the home run derby's which have standard, score, Tag Team, and Team, the skybox is really cool where you get darts, pictures, air hockey, and much more, and i like the presentation a lot because it looks like you are watching a game on ESPN. Overall this is a good game, but I recommend MVP Baseball 2005.
