Customer Reviews of Over Easy
Kicking back with a few beers While Over Easy might not have the immediately catchy tracks that the Cruel Sea have been known to punch out on other records such as Three Legged Dog or Honeymoon Is Over, this is one of those rare albums that you could listen to a hundred times over with a few beers, a few mates, and a hot summers day. Solid from start to finish, the album shows that the Cruel Sea can mix it up with a variety of instruments and styles. This is one of those albums that you don't hear for a while, and then wonder why it isn't at the front of your collection.
Classic Aussie swampmaster surf music
Cruel Sea have a style of their own. They sound like no other band in the USA. Tex Perkins voice roars out at you- backed by wrenching guitars. But it can also be silk-smooth with Jim & the boys fluent surf guitars painting a picture of calm seas & glassy surf. Just chuck it in the car & drive up the coast- it will take you far away.
Why aren't they huge in America???
Upon reviewing this cd, I need to ask the question, Why hasn't the Cruel Sea gained the huge amount of success in America as they have overseas? Having communicated with Tex Perkins (front man for the band, ex Beasts of Bourbon) I've discovered that they simply don't get the distrubution. Somebody in the music industry is missing out on a goldmine. Thank god for Amazon.com for making their music available to us here. With their fifth cd, Cruel Sea has finally reached their point of maturity. I remember listening to their first release (Down Below) and being blown away by how full the band sounded. That doesn't hold a candle to the full, rich sound they've achieved with Over Easy. Let's hope thay they can find a market in America soon.
