Customer Reviews of Opening Night
A beautiful surprise Steve Ward knows...
This CD creeps up on you slowly but effectively. It took me a while to get it; at first it was too smooth and even seemed a bit silly in the song structure. You'll get passed that, in fact you will embrace the silly but very unique and excellent song style; Steve's sense of melody is truly amazing and quite subtle in the hook. The vocal treatment is also very cool; I've never heard anybody deal with the vocals in the harmonies, treatment and mix like is exemplified on this CD.
-Lot's of great songs, a worthy addition to any pop collection.

This disc is brilliant power pop -- there's no other way to put it. Steve Ward, the leader of the group Cherry Twister, proves his genius with this solo effort that actually ups the ante on his previous work.
These songs are so beautifully written -- the tunes are as memorable as the old Lennon/McCartney ouevre -- and the production is spot-on.
Most remarkable of all, every tune is strong. No chaff here -- it's all wheat. My favorites are "Of Course You Do" and "Western Skies" and "Switch It On" and "You Can Shine."
But that's not really true. I *love* them all.
Once again, check those star ratings on *all* these reviews. That's no accident.
This one *is* as good as everyone says it is.

Next to the "Type your review in the space below" box is a picture of Eminem. Why do we live in a world where Steve Ward lives in anonymity and Eminem is a household name? Cherry Twister's albums are absolute gems--almost perfect examples of the pure-pop genre. And as good as they are, "Opening Night" is even better. Which I thought was impossible after 10,000 listenings to Cherry Twister. No filler, just one absolutely great song after another. I can't recommend this album enough.
