Customer Reviews of Open the Door
The more you listen the better it gets The more I listen to this album the more I enjoy it. I keep wanting to here it. Roger is back. This album is as strong as anything he has ever done with Supertramp. It is truely a shame that this album has not been picked up for US distribtion yet. People are missing one of the best albums of the year. Roger's ballads are strong, some nice touches on choice of instuments especially the bag pipes. The anthems on this album are as strong as Fools Overture. "Open the Door" is a terrific cut. This is a must for any Supertramp fan
ROGER IS SUPERTRAMP!!
If you ever heard Supertramp, you certainly know the voice!! Roger Hodgson was the hit maker for the 70's group! Well, his voice is still remarkable! Open The Door is his best work EVER - and that includes his work with Supertramp at the height of their success.
The music on Open The Door is creative, passionate, original, and it moves your soul! Roger's voice is in finest form - have some tissue handy when you listen to Say Good Bye.
The only thing missing from this scenario is air play!! This album would be a major hit and everyone will once again know why Supertramp was so popular.
Do I recommend it? Only if you love good music!
One very nice track
I agree with a previous reviewer who noted that both Supertramp's post-Hodgson albums and Roger Hodgson's solo albums both demonstrate how much they benefited from each other. Without Rick's bluesy, down-to-earth influences, many of Roger's lyrics sound too ponderous and pretentious and many of his melodies too uninspired. I am giving this album three stars, however, because of "The More I Look," which is really a lovely song and worthy of any Supertramp album.
