All that's just the first couple of episodes of season 2. In the remaining 21, Dan temporarily fools everyone into believing he's a changed man following his cardiac crisis. In fact, he's worse than ever, trying to wreck Nathan and Haley's marriage, attempting to buy Lucas's loyalties, driving Deb into a drug-addicted stupor, pulling the rug out from beneath Keith (who took over Dan's dealership during the latter's illness), and waging a war, of sorts, with basketball coach Whitey (Barry Corbin) for influence over Nathan's destiny. While all this is going on, Haley leaves Nathan to join a music group, Peyton finds success running an all-ages night at a new club opened by Karen, Lucas finds evidence that Dan is cheating the IRS, Brooke's once-wealthy parents go broke, and actress Sheryl Lee (Twin Peaks) turns up toward season's end playing a mysterious visitor with a surprising connection to a major character's past. Whew. If One Tree Hill's first season succeeded in part because series creator Mark Schwahn kept, for a while, a tight focus on the early, rocky relationship between Nathan and Lucas, the second season works as a frenetic, ensemble drama with elements of camp and absurdity. The above-mentioned reference to Dallas villain J.R. Ewing proves apt in more ways than one. The final episode of One Tree Hill's sophomore season ends with its own, not-so-subtle variation on the classic who-shot-J.R. cliffhanger, leaving open to debate which of many possible One Tree candidates might have committed a foul (if understandable) bit of vengeance against a certain bad dude one loves to hate. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews of One Tree Hill - The Complete Second Season
Dare I Say It - Better Than 'The OC' The season begins with the inevitable return of Lukas and Keith which causes the newly reunited Peyton and Brooke to make peace with the man they once fought over. They find this an easier task than they thought, and their new friendship with Lukas is touching in the later episodes. <

>The storylines are much more mature than Season One and so far there has not been one basketball match featured! The actors have pulled off very touching and emotional performances that all deserve recognition: especially Brooke who struggles to open her heart after it has been broken previously. <

>This season is based primarily on the characters romantic affairs with many of the characters falling in love then having their heart broken. Peyton falls for the runaway Jake who returns with his daughter Jenny, and Karen has an extremely close student-teacher relationship whilst attending a business course. Taboo subjects like drugs and homosexuality are also dealt with giving the characters depth and emotion, and showing the audience that problems should be faced and dealt with. <

>The main focus of the season is the strain put on the teenage newlyweds Hayley and Nathan. Hayley wishes to pursue a singing career and Nathan begins to wonder if he is a part of her future. The following events change their lives forever and both actors pull off poignant performances. <

>Overall this is a much more mature and well scripted season that is thoroughly enjoyable to watch. The season is left on a whodunnit and now I can't wait for season three to find out who it is. Definitely one of the best teen dramas on the TV and, dare I say it, better than 'The OC'.
I love this show. Better than 90210 and The OC.
This is a great show on The WB. I rank it number 1 in the same class as Smallville and Supernatural. It is far better than Beverly Hills 90210 and Orange County aka The OC. I say this is better because this show is real and down to earth, and actually smart people, it is not too cliquish like cool people--Jocks, Cheerleaders and So called nerds and geeks. 90210 and The OC are both full of bologna (fake people and airheads). This is just like Dawson's Creek but better. This show is not just for white people, women, and teenagers, it is for everyone out there. So give it a try.
Great TV Drama with limited bonus features
I loved the second season of One Tree Hill when it was out on the WB. Then I decided I wanted to own the season. I bought it off of Amazon because it was cheaper then anywhere else. I was expecting more from the bonus materials, like having the main characters give a commentary on one of the episodes. I am happy with the setup and the quality of the DVD. I definitley recommend this to others who like 45 minute long dramas that have cliff hangers.
