Meanwhile, Lucas helps Karen run her café, hangs out with platonic best friend Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz), and pines for Peyton (herself a punky misfit at heart). He also turns to surrogate dad Keith Scott (Craig Sheffer)--actually his uncle and Dan's older brother--for support, and sees himself as a perpetual and doomed outsider in One Tree. All that changes when Whitey invites Lucas to join the b-ball team that Nathan dominates, a move that challenges the status quo of multiple relationships in a small community. For about a third of its episodes, this series from creator Mark Schwahn (who wrote the hit film Coach Carter) stays true to the suspense surrounding Lucas's and Nathan's changes in fortune. Then a bit of padding follows to the end of the season; there are 22 episodes to fill out, after all. But even as various distractions (a kidnapping subplot, a car accident and coma for a major character) and random events creep in (Dan, rather incredibly, takes over the team from Whitey at one point, thus coaching both his sons), One Tree Hill remains highly watchable. The writing is shaped well and organic, while performances are consistently excellent. (It's especially good to see Sheffer, perhaps best known for A River Runs Through It, again.) --Tom Keogh

>This is not good TV. This show is about nothing with people who cannot act to save their stupid lives. I hate this show and all the other stupid and lame shows. I will not buy this DVD and I hope that people understand that this show sucks big time.
another teen drama?
I guess someone might call this just another teen drama, and I guess it is, but something about this series really caught my attention. I hesitated a long time before buying the DVD since I had barely heard of the series. After reading some reviews on it I was surprised how many people said that you need to watch almost half of the season before it grows interesting. well that was partly true. I enjoyed the series all the way from the pilot, but especially the characters grow a lot more interesting along the way. I was watching the episodes at the rate of 1-2 per week, after around the 10th episode I watched the rest in a couple of days.

>I saw a lot of comparison the O.C. when reading reviews on One Tree Hill, I dont think I could compare these two and make much sense, but somehow this one seems a bit more down to earth. The series goes much deeper into the relationships of people and doesn't just show the breakups and makeups. Having watched the first season of O.C. prior to One Tree Hill, this still seemed kinda fresh.

>If you hated Dawson Creek, the OC and all other teen series I doubt your gonna like this one any more. however, if you even somewhat liked any of the similar shows then I suggest checking this one out. After watching through the first season I'm eagerly waiting for the second one on DVD.
