Customer Reviews of On Her Majesty's Secret Service
John Barry's Finest 007 Score Though the overall merits of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969) will be debated for years to come, there's little argument that John Barry's dynamic score represents the high-water mark of the James Bond series. Happily, EMI/Capitol has reissued and expanded Barry's original soundtrack recording. The results are well worth the wait. Running nearly 80 minutes, the remastered "OHMSS" features Barry's complete score, along with a largely unused passage titled "Dusk at Piz Gloria." The previously unreleased bonus tracks add considerably more punch, particularly "Gumbold's Safe" and "Escape From Piz Gloria." At this writing, it appears unlikely that the 007 producers will reactivate Barry's license to score, which was inexplicably revoked after "The Living Daylights" (1987). His contributions are sorely missed.
The Best Her Majesty has to offer
This is the best John Barry/Bond score and probably the best of Barry's long and illutrious career. The addition of the extre bonus tracks is like a godsend and they are among the highlights the sassy Bond meets the girls and Who will buy my yesterdays are wonderfully dreamy lush romantic cues that uderscore Bonds romancing of the Piz Gloria patients,Gumbolds safe break is along awaited tense suspense peice, and anice little collection of odds and eands is Blofelds Plot. The Bobsled chase is a harrowing action peice and the ski chase (how they left that out of the original recording is beyond me) is a thrilling rendition of the main theme as Blofeld and his goons pursue Bond. This has been a long time in coming and was worth the wait.
The best Bond soundtrack to this date
This CD really offers you a great Bond atmosphere. Although some people mean that OHMSS is an odd bond-movie the music is absolutely great. The tracks on this CD contains all music that can be heard in the movie - which on most Bond-soundtacks isn't the case.
If you're a Bond-music-fan I think you're really going to enjoy this one!
