Customer Reviews of Oasis: There and Then
Wonderwall of Sound Watching the tour Oasis launched in 1995-96 in support of "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" was a bit like seeing the rebirth of rock and roll. I did not get to see their English shows, but did catch them stateside, and what an amazing thing it was to see this band, five guys on a stage, with guitars, no ridiculous special effects (a la Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd) - just playing brilliant music with brilliant attitude. This film, capturing two English performances from the era, is a time capsule of what Oasis' early brilliance and what made us love them before they went a bit crazy. Never have they sounded better live than the Maine Road performance captured here. To be honest, I do not think I have ever heard better live rock and roll than the Maine Road show. Highly recommended, even to non-Oasis fans, for the exhibition of the rock show as power musical performance, rather than effects-laden side show. Absolutely brilliant.
Oasis, on top of the world
This release was taken from their two shows at Earl's Court and Maine Rd in England.Kicking off with the jam fest that is known as "The Swamp Song" and then smoothly gliding into the duet "Acquiesce", this is a good indication that the boys know how to rock. There isn't a sour note to be found here especially when Noel sits down on his stool for another rendition of "The Masterplan" or his otherworldly guitar solo in "Champagne Supernova".It was a bit odd to see Oasis perform "I Am the Walrus" with a Beatles look-a-like, tribute band. Tongues firmly planted in cheeks? The one thing that keeps this video from being consistent are the interview bits they throw in between songs. I have to fast forward through them. Sorry guys. This is a better concert video than the previously released "Live By the Sea" as it shows Oasis at the height of their popularity, on bigger stages, in front of larger crowds, giving their all. Outstanding.
I have to disagree with everyone.
I'm sorry, but I think this DVD was terrible. I often watch recordings of concerts, and I can't think of any other that was this bad. Even the front cover was lame. But well, I thought, maybe the concert is good. It was not! First of all, it was boring. I like Oasis's music, but having seen two recordings of their concerts, I think they're probably one of the most boring bands live. I mean, I know it's not all about entertaining the crowd and more about the music, but when the lead singer stands most of the time with his hands behind his back and leaning forward to reach the microphone, it gets a bit boring. Not to mention, it looks stupid. Then the sound quality. I don't know what the real concert was like, but the sound quality for this DVD was really bad in my opinion. I could hardly hear Liam or whatever his name is singing, I could only hear the fans. When I go to concerts, and there's no way to lower the voices of people around me, I hear less of the fans singing than I did in this DVD. I was pretty bored and irritated about halfway through this DVD and I don't think I ever finished watching it because it was that horrible. I never plan to watch it again, and I think I might sell it pretty soon. Really cheap, because I think that's what it's worth.
The only thing that was remotely interesting was the slight changes in some of the lyrics. However, I'd still give it 0 stars if I could.
