Customer Reviews of Norton Systemworks 2003 Professional Edition-10 Pack
Once upon a time, I was a McAfee fan ...
from the very first edition right up to Suite 7, I think it was.
By then they had dropped FirstAid (similar to Norton's WinDoctor) from their suite and came out with very buggy upgrades (which their tech support could never solve).
So, I switched to Norton SystemWorks and have run it flawlessly through several computer and OS upgrades (I build my own computers). I like it so much that I have upgraded versions several times and I have purchased enough copies to run on all of my computers.
As for the guy with the Gateway -- that may be the problem. Every time I bought something for my Gateway that was not made especially for Gateway, I had trouble of some kind. In fact, my Gateway experience was so infuriating that I actually learned to build my own computers just so I would never have to deal with a computer company again.
Also, he is running Windows Me. What a lethal combination! If the machine isn't incompatible with the new software, then Me is!
As for bloatware, anyone who owns Windows (including me) has no right to complain about bloatware. We reward the bloatware trend every time we buy Windows.
Anyway, I am knowledgeable enough to maintain my own computer but why bother when I can do it all from within one program?

Better than NSW 2002
First of all, this review is for NSW 2003 Suite, not for the Profesional Edition which has a few extras. Anyway lets start.
I have been using NSW for about 4 years now and I have to say that their latest version, runs smoothly with no problems on my PC. I have Windows XP Home Edition installed, with 512MB SDRAM and 1GH Intel Pentium III.
NSW 2003 consists of Norton Utilities, Norton Antivirus, Norton Cleansweep, Web Tools and Extra Features like Symantec Web and GoBack by Roxio. All these, are great tools to assist you in keeping your system in good shape.
I am not going to analyse Norton Utilities and Norton CleanSweep because there is a word limit to how much I can write. But I am sure that you already know how they work, or at least most of you do. Norton Antivirus however has some new features that are worth mentioning, like Worm Blocking in Email Scanning and Instant Messengers protection, like MSN, Yahoo and AOL messengers.
Web Tools is pretty handy, since it can clean up your Temporary Internet files, cookies and history. There is also another feature which if enabled, helps keeping your Internet connection alive which may help you if you are experiencing connection problems.
One Button Checkup is also very usefull, since it scans your entire system for errors. Some of the scans involve a registry scan and a program interity scan, plus others.
To sum up, although I only mentioned a small portion of what NSW 2003 can really do for your system, I recommend it to anyone who is interested in keeping their system healthy. It is good, practical and stable with a very easy to use graphical user interface and it can help identify and fix problems before they even occur.
If you have an earlier version it would be a good idea to uninstall it first before installing NSW 2003, and remember people one word of advice which I give to everyone: "Always backup your important to you data".
NORTON 2004, A NIGHTMARE FOR OUTLOOK EXPRESS
I am an old Norton Systems Works customer, and I have been relatively satisfied with their virus protection, especially the ability to download and upgrade through the Internet. However, the lastest edition of NORTON, ie, Norton 2004 which I bought for 100 dollars, (I live in Ibadan, Nigeria) is not good for the international market. When I tried to install NORTON 2004 on my computer, I found out that it has to be activated on the INTERNET. Well, this may not be good for many African users, but I am connected to a server at home. So I tried to activate the system only to find out my server is not compatible with NORTON 2004. This is specified on page 21 of the manual that it is not compatitble with AOL, and SSL Secure Socket email systems. Well, not only would it not install, it would not uninstall--my machine was totally mucked up for almost two months, and I have had to revert to emailing from a cyber cafe. I think anyone who is selling a product, should make is perfectly clear on the packaging the systems with which the product is compatible. I have finally been able to reformat my hard disk and remove the Norton 2004, and reinstall my email server information, but what do I do with NORTON 2004, I hope the engineeers from NORTON read this and write to me and solve my problem. As presently, I have no protection against email viruses.
