Norton SystemWorks 2003 comes with Norton AntiVirus 2003, excellent antivirus software which now scans files downloaded through instant messages, as well as from the Web and POP3 e-mail. It also blocks viruses that try to spread through your e-mail, keeps your virus definitions up-to-date, and looks for virus-like behavior.
Similarly, many of the tools in Norton Utilities are both easy to use and powerful. It checks the Registry and your hard drive for potential problems you wouldn't otherwise see, and helps you fix them. While some of the older tools have been superseded by options in Windows XP itself, the Speed Disk defragmenter gives you more information and more options than the built-in tools in any version of Windows.
The tools in CleanSweep are useful for clearing out clutter on your PC, whether from applications you've downloaded and installed, or for cleaning up after your browser. While there are other ways to do all of that, and the tools in this version have been reorganized rather than updated, you do get a very clear and simple interface to work with rather than having to hunt around. Plus there's a new tool called Connection Keep Alive to stop your dialup connection from disconnecting when you're not actively using it; handy if you leave your PC while a long download is running.
This isn't a major upgrade, but if you don't already have a copy of Norton SystemWorks it's a worthwhile investment to make sure you're getting the most out of your PC. --Mary Branscombe, Amazon.co.uk

Customer Reviews of Norton SystemWorks 2003
Why it crashes For all you folks having problems with this software , first disable go back especially if you are running winme or disable the restore function in winme they fight each other for control.Second for all NT kernels disable the Norton protection program in utilities. Nprotect and ghost startsystem will fight with the explorer shell for control and hang up in a mobius loop until one or the other times out if you don't the system has to try and start about 20 times before it gives up takes average machine about 10 or 20 minutes to boot once it hangs. If you just disable these two functions everything else will probably function fine. Also in Symantecs last ccapp update for windows 98 it caused systems to hang up indefinitely as soon as you tried to access the Internet. However as near as I can tell they have finally fixed whatever was blowing up the CcApp program. As most of the people around here who have 98 and have been beating me over the head wanting to know why their computers had hung no longer have the problem,Once I stopped the CcApp update. As of last night I reenabled it in Symantecs latest download and all the machines seemed to come up Ok.Actually once you figure these problems out it really is a very good utility suite especially the Anti Virus and Ghost functions
The first program installed after your Windows OS
This should be the first program all new computers should have. Or old ones. IT'S A MUST!!! Over the course of 5 years since I've subscribed to SystemWorks (their Win Doctor and Anti-virus is included) has saved my butt many, many times. And always buy the upgrades for two reasons 1) You always get more and the latest than what you pay for, especially if 2) you're a repeat customer already: Every year, they offer a bonus $20 rebate on top of the other ones offered. They have an excellent product and they want to get you "hooked".
With each new SystemWorks (they don't have upgrades: you get the whole package each year), it's gets easier and easier to find/eliminate the newest viruses, keep your system at top maintenance automatically, retrieve files that were totally deleted days ago, etc., etc., etc. SystemWorks is the best and most complete program to own. THE HEADACHE ELIMINATOR!!!
NORTON 2004, A NIGHTMARE FOR OUTLOOK EXPRESS
I am an old Norton Systems Works customer, and I have been relatively satisfied with their virus protection, especially the ability to download and upgrade through the Internet. However, the lastest edition of NORTON, ie, Norton 2004 which I bought for 100 dollars, (I live in Ibadan, Nigeria) is not good for the international market. When I tried to install NORTON 2004 on my computer, I found out that it has to be activated on the INTERNET. Well, this may not be good for many African users, but I am connected to a server at home. So I tried to activate the system only to find out my server is not compatible with NORTON 2004. This is specified on page 21 of the manual that it is not compatitble with AOL, and SSL Secure Socket email systems. Well, not only would it not install, it would not uninstall--my machine was totally mucked up for almost two months, and I have had to revert to emailing from a cyber cafe. I think anyone who is selling a product, should make is perfectly clear on the packaging the systems with which the product is compatible. I have finally been able to reformat my hard disk and remove the Norton 2004, and reinstall my email server information, but what do I do with NORTON 2004, I hope the engineeers from NORTON read this and write to me and solve my problem. As presently, I have no protection against email viruses.
