Customer Reviews of Norton AntiVirus Mac 10.0 (Mac)
Stability Problems on Intel-based Macs My happy MacBook Pro was working perfectly until I installed Norton Anti-Virus. Within a few hours, I started experiencing random system crashes -- hard freezes where I had to kill the power to the system. Using the "what has changed?" troubleshooting approach, I uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus, and the system has been super-stable again ever since. <

>This version of NAV is not Universal -- it is not written to support Intel processors -- so it makes sense that it could cause stability issues on Intel based Macs. <

>I don't know if it has the same stability problems on PowerPC Macs, but I would recommend avoiding this product until Symantec updates it to at least be Universal.
Worth the update
With the $30 rebate for existing users in mind, let me tell you this NAV update is well worth the money it cost me. Works flawlessly behind the scenes with Mac OS X 10.4.0 through 10.4.5.

>I see no slow down of normal operations even when I am running a complete HD scan in the background. Live Update evidently has been streamlined too. It downloads and updates much quicker than the previous version.
Corrupts hard drive
I had used Norton antivirus 9.0 without problems, although it never found a virus except in a few old files the first time I ran it. When it ran out of time (1 year) I got 10.0 and regret it. It hangs up the system requiring restarts and cleaning up with diskaid and Norton Disk Doctor, which has not fully resolved the problems. Don't buy it.
