| Players can control games using the touch-sensitive bottom screen of the DS. |
The good news is that Nintendo has stressed a lot of comfort options, both in the operating system and in their games. Want to play Metroid without the touch-pad? Select a different control scheme in the game's option menu, which also includes configurations for lefties. You can even customize your DS to automatically play the inserted title or to start with the main menu, choose which screen to display your GBA games, to add a nickname for wireless play, and more.

Also, unlike all but the earliest video game systems, the DS comes with a built-in application. It's called PictoChat, and it allows people to write and draw pictures in a chat-room format. Since it's built in to the DS operating system, you'll always be able to interact with other DS users.

Overall, the Nintendo DS represents a rather large leap in portable gaming. With some mystery shrouding the future abilities of its internal microphone (voice recognition) and its IEEE 802.11 wireless network, the DS may have left some surprises up its sleeve. --Porter B. Hall
Pros:
- Great design marries innovative new features with great features of old systems and lots of customizable options
- Wireless up to 100 feet
- Built-in PictoChat lets you write and draw pictures with up to 15 other DS users
Cons:
- Sometimes hard to see and use the touch screen at the same time
- Wireless multiplayer feature won't work with GBA games
- Can't connect to other wireless devices...yet

Customer Reviews of Nintendo DS
DS is Great I personally love the DS. It has many fun games and is quite durable. The DS is a little on the large side, especially when open, but I can live with that. The one major complaint I have is that while the DS is portable, it's extremely hard to play on the road. Since the best games are touch screen-based, even fairly small bumps can really mess you up. There is a good selection of games coming out for the DS, plus the online service later this year. Overall, a great device.
This bickering is pointless.
The PSP and the DS approach entertainment from two completely different perspectives. The PSP is a solid multimedia machine that is capable of playing some pretty decent games. I bought one the day it came out and played with it for a while, watched a movie on it...and then put it down, never to be used again. I sold it on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. The DS is a gaming machine and a gaming machine only (though some PDA features are already becoming available). The touch screen of the DS opens it up to a whole different regime of game types. If you want something you can turn on, play a game for a few minutes and then shut off, the DS has a large library of these kinds of games (because of its backwards compatibility with GBA). The list of available games for the PSP is, at this time, sorely lacking, though the titles that are available are certainly excellent. Yes, the graphics of the DS cannot compete with the PSP. The basic hardware of the DS cannot compete with the PSP. It's not supposed to. It's a different kind of system for a different audience. Hard-core gamers, go grab your PSP and enjoy it! Those of us who just want to have simple fun, the DS is a very nice system. I plan on grabbing mine after the price drop next Tuesday. As a fan of classic arcade and console games, the DS is an extremely attractive device. I don't need the latest rockin' graphics to make my gaming experience enjoyable. I just want something that will keep me occupied. Nintendogs, while considered lame and loserly by the PSP hardcores, is a revolutionary program that really shows why the DS deserves respect in its own right. They are NOT meant for the same target audience. Get whichever one floats your boat. Why do you need to knock those who choose one system over another? I have heard similar passionate wars between X-Box and PS2 owners. POINTLESS!!! GET WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY AND JUST...ENJOY IT!!!!
4 stars currently but 5 stars later this year
First off, I hate the fighting between the DS and PSP. People who have a psp (and have never played a DS) come and give the DS a 1, and vice versa. Come on?!? IT'S A HANHELD!!! Anyway, to the review.

>-Games-

>Nintendo revolutionizes the portible industry with one of the most eccentric handheld device I've seen. Some may think this is bad, but when you get down to it, it's loads of fun. The DS has 2 screens (thats were it's moniker for the DS comes from), and a touch screen on the lower screen. Though many say the DS has only N64 graphics, games that have lower prosscessing speed can produce amzing quality (meteos). The DS has a built-in microphone. The possibilities are endless. And it seems Nintendo has siezed an incredible amount of 3rd-party devolpers and has hundreds of companies now many games. Plus DS can play GBA games, and there is an add-on to stick in the GBA slot that is a rumble pak.

>-Wi-fi Online (802.11)-
<
>Yes, the DS is online. And it's completly free of charge. The first games to use it are Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. But don't be fooled, Dynasty Warriors DS and Final Fantasy CC DS will be online. All you need is a wireless router. The compliment to it is DSpeak, a free Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP for short). It will be included in games as well. What this means is that you get Xbox live (for free) in your pocket.

>-Add-ons-
<
>The DS is resieving several add-ons. Play-yan (aka GBplayer, or GBmovie) is a multimedia device that runs on nintendo's favorite media card, SD Flash (witch is also the case for the revolution). Also nintendo is making V-pocket, an palm os system for your DS. This may rival the DSlinux in production.

>For you "Tech masters" the DS's CPU are the Arm7 and Arm9 processor. Meaning the DS is good with effects and certain styles of graphics. It is 96 bit. It uses a litium ion battery. So young and old alike, go get yourself a DS.
