Customer Reviews of Nexus: The Jupiter Incident
A little complicated, but stick with it The gameplay draws you in, some aspects of it are confusing though. I advise as this may be your first time playing that you actually read the manual that comes with the game! I know, its crazy, but in order to get the most possible enjoyment out of the game it is a must. <

>The graphics are spectacular, if your has the recommended specs for the game. On my system the game runs like a dream, and my computer is a year and a half old. The bugs noticed in the previous review are not present. <

>Configuring your ships for the missions is fun and takes some skill, but even if you dont get it right you can restart the mission, which I have had to do on multiple occasions. The game also has a mod creator so if you dont like the story line you can just build your own story. But the in game story line is pretty good, although not at all what I expected. Well if it was what I expected then the creators wouldn't have done their job. <

>I was afraid when I first started it up that it was going to be like X-2 The Threat, bad dialog and everything, but it actually has decent grammar and realistic dialog. And you don't get the 'I've just been caught watching Full House' embarassed feeling when someone sees you playing it. The game also has a built in tutorial so going in blind isnt totally overwhelming. <

>In other words, this game will slowly begin eating away your time until one day you wake up, find yourself in your parents basement, your significant other has left you, and you smell pretty bad. So get it already and the above life can be yours!
Nice game, shame about the bugs...
Nexus: The Jupiter Incident picks up on the familiar Tactical Space Sim made famous by the Homeworld series. In this game however you get a fair amount of control over the configuration of you fleet (RPG style with targetted upgrades etc) with the emphasis more on epic lumbering space battles than tactical strikes. The game design is quite good with engaging characters and an interesting storyline. The graphics too are of very high quality. That however is where any plesantries end. Nexus is buggy beyond belief. The forums for this game are full of startup failures, screen corruption and gameplay triggers that cause crash to desktop. This however is only half the story! If you have more than one game installed at a time you will also notice that most of your other games stop functioning. I experienced this with Doom3, Far Cry and Rome TW just to mention the major titles. Reinstalling the game itself, its recent 1.01 patch, DirectX (reportedly the source of many user problems) or video drivers will not fix the problem. I had to reinstall WinXP and perch Nexus on a spotlessly clean system (even AV affected it) just to get it running. If you feel like wrestling with a game that will severely test your patience Nexus may be just the thing. Otherwise save yourself days of frustration and avoid it like the plague.
