Customer Reviews of New England Metal Hardcore Festival 2003
GREATNESS! This was an incredible DVD to say the least. I will get my complaints out of the way first. The audio mix on the "bonus" bands is attrocious, it is quite incredible for all the other bands, though. Other than my particular dislike for some bands, this is my main complaint. The performances by Lamb of God, Converge, Shadows Fall, and Nevermore are well worth the price of admission alone, especially seeing the great crowd participation that Lamb of God has. Meshuggah wasn't as great as I thought it would be (I have seen them live, so I guess I had my expectations too high), but it was still rocking. Bleeding Through and Founddeadhanging made a huge impact on me because I didnt expect them to be so great. HIMSA, Caliban, and NORA were also very good. Eighteen Visions made themselves look like morons (no surprise) as well as Scarlet, which kind of disappointed me because their CD 'Cult Classic' is incredible. After vieweing this DVD, I am going out to get some Converge, Bleeding Thourgh, and Founddeadhanging CDs. Go get this DVD. You will only be disappointed if you expect anyone to not scream the majority of the vocals.
hmmm...
right i seriously did not enjoy this dvd at all. this is the 1st metal fest dvd i have ever seen. and will probably be the last. well till hellfest 2003 comes out. but any way, none of the bands played amazing, as there was little crowd participation which makes bands usually play better. just been able to see a life once lost and the lamb of god wall of death (which will be a lot better on hellfest 2003 dvd) were probably best bits on dvd. unless you are some silly little girl who drools all over eighteen visions, or you went to the fest and wana see yourself in the crowd. i would not recomend this dvd at all!!
An excellent festival caught on tape.
I received the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival 2003 DVD. Nothing short of amazing. Though I don't like alll of the bands on it, the ones I do really deliver, and the ones I don't are sure to please those who do. The interviews are great though I wish they were a bit longer, and included in bonus features rather than interspersed between songs, for the flow of the music. I would have liked to see a comentary audio track, such as in the Hellfest 2002 dvd also. The sound quality was really good for everything except for the vocals. On some they were a little too low in the mix. Other than that it's a great live dvd compilation. Some of the highlights for me were: The Haunted, Cannae, Eighteen Visions, Nora, Bleeding Through, Converge, Killswitch Engage, Atreyu, along with bonuses, Himsa, and Blood Has Been Shed. With the release of this, and the Relapse Records Contamintation Festival 2003, and Hellfest dvds, I'm now a junkie for metal festival dvds. It's a great way to check out new bands, and see the bands I'm into in their live setting. Living in Maine there aren't many shows with better bands.
