Customer Reviews of Navy Micro Fibre Tote
I love this diaper bag! this bag is so great..it has room for everything and it is comfortable to carry around. I REALLY LIKED THE PRICE TOO!
Better in person!
I ordered this tote because it is on sale through babiesrus.com. I should warn you; I spoke to a sales girl in-store at Toys R Us, and this tote is being discontinued! Get it now at this great price!
You're probably considering this tote for the same reason I did - it doesn't LOOK like a cutsie, girly, diaper bag. I wanted something my husband wouldn't mind carrying either (not to mention me!), but I also didn't want a backpack-type bag. This bag is great; like carrying an oversized purse. I can fit all my baby stuff in it, as well as my own stuff, and it's probably only half full! Yet it doesn't feel or look rediculously big and bulky, since you can collapse down the parts you aren't using.
I'm eyeballing it, but I'd say this tote measures about 15" tall by 15" wide by 6" deep. If you have hardly anything in it, you can fold the 6" bottom over so it's flat - very compact (like the way a paper grocery sack folds). The fabric is thick, yet lightweight, and water-resistant (might even be water proof) which I love; I was afraid it was going to be a canvas bag from the picture. The inside is a high-quality plastic-like lining that wipes-up easily from spills. There is a stiff insert for the bottom of the bag to help with really heavy stuff; it also fits nicely against the side of the bag on the inside if you want to take it out of the bottom.
It closes at the top with a large, strong, magnentic snap, which I love because it gives easy access yet helps more than you would think to keep things inside the bag. The sides of the bag can fold inward for compactness or outward for extra room (they are folded outward in the picture). You can also see in the picture that each side has a short strap attached to it; these snap together if you want to keep the sides folded in. Honesty, I don't use this feature because the sides will stay folded in all on their own if I want to use the bag that way. My eyeball measurement is with the sides folded in; if they're out, the tote is probably an additional 3" on each side at the top (tapering off to the bottom).
There are quite a few pockets inside, including one that velcros a cell phone in securly, but the only ones I really use are the three that hold bottles. They have elastic at the top to help keep the bottles from slipping out. There are also two large pockets on the outside, one is zippered (see picture) and the other side is velcro. There is also a zippered pocket inside that I use for anything that I want *for sure* NOT to slide out of the bag accidentally, like maybe some personal products.
It comes with a changing pad and "dirty duds" bag. The dirty duds bag doesn't seal up tightly (just a flap that folds over the top) but it's made of a special plastic that doesn't absorb odor. I once left a formula-soaked bib in there for a few days, and when I took it out, the bib STANK but after I shook the "dirty duds" bag to air it out, it just smelled like plastic! The changing pad is made of the same wipe-proof plastic as the inside of the bag - see light blue color in picture.
The straps aren't adjustable, but I'm just 5' tall and the bag is not too long, hits me in the hip area. I would imagine for a really tall person, it would basically hang just under the arm, above the hip. The straps are about an inch wide; narrow enough to not be overwhelming, but wide enough to keep from cutting into your shoulder. Another thing I like is the two straps snap together, which makes it easy to grab the bag in a flash. I keep them snapped together all the time because you can still get into the bag easily.
I hope anyone looking for an all-purpose, any occasion, non-frufru diaper bag will still be able to get this for awhile. I would have paid full price; the current discount seems like a steal!
better than I expected
The picture doesn't tell you much but the reviews were so positive that I took a chance and ordered this bag online. I like it very much, it is just the right size for me, not huge, not small. The fabric is nice and the navy will match my car seat and stroller. There are snaps on the straps so you can attach it to your stroller, or at least I think that's what the snaps are for, haven't tried it yet (I don't know how safe that would be). I like the large outside pockets and the organizing pockets on the inside. The inside of the bag is lined with light blue, thin, shiny material, which I'm not wild about, but I can live with it. There was a strong smell of plastic or formaldehyde or something like that when removing it from the packaging, and the smell lingers.
However, be warned that the fine print states that this item is shipped separately and will be charged separate shipping, so the bag will cost you $20 if you buy it online, no matter how many other items you buy.
