Customer Reviews of Nancy Drew Reporter (B&W)
Is it Ned or Ted? I am now uncertain if she called her neighbor Ted or Ned after reading the other reviews! I thought it was Ned her boyfriend as I could not see a married man (saw wedding ring on his finger while using the phone)helping out Nancy. His wife would be angry and why would she not call on Ned her boyfriend? I also missed her girlfriends Bess and George and wanted a longer more involved mystery that they all could be in,including the maid! Now I will have to watch it over again to make sure who is who!Seems like they tried to make a "filler" movie, but Granville is still great as Nancy Drew!!
Adorable Amateur Sleuth Film Based on the Lovable 'Nancy Drew' Series
Schoolgirl Nancy Drew (Bonita Granville) has always wanted to be a real reporter, so when she participates in a local newspaper contest, she's nothing but disappointed by the assignment she receives. However, when she pulls a little switcharoo, Nancy suddenly feels like a real reporter, for she is now covering the story of a young woman's fatal poisoning, and the arrest of a woman who Nancy presumes is innocent. Now, with the help of her friend and next-door neighbor, Ted (Frankie Thomas) as well as her lawyer father, Nancy stumbles upon some very incriminating clues, that will set the innocent free, and capture the real killer. Now all Nancy and Ted need to do is solve the case, and Nancy will be able to call herself a true reporter. And detective.

>I read the NANCY DREW books for years while I was growing up, however, I grew out of them before my tenth birthday; so I never thought that the NANCY DREW films starring Bonita Granville (THE LONE RANGER and ANNE OF GREEN GABLES) would be able to hold my attention, but I was quite wrong. Bonita Granville is adorable as Nancy Drew. She is brave, cute, intelligent, and very good at using reverse psychology on her somewhat goofy neighbor Ned. Frankie Thomas (TOM CORBETT, SPACE CADET and THE MAJOR AND THE MINOR) couldn't be cuter as the bumbling next-door neighbor, who is obviously the eye of Nancy's affections. Thomas has a great sense of humor - which shines through in his performance - and just looking at him alone will send you into fits of laughter, as his face conveys such expression. Yes, many of the characters found in the NANCY DREW books are missing in this film, but you can't hold that against it. NANCY DREW...REPORTER is an adorable black and white film that can be watched over and over again, whether you are young or old.

It's not the REAL Nancy!
This movie is the product of a pre-feminist era. Nancy was a girl who TOOK CHARGE. Bonita Granville is adorable, but she's just not the Nancy I grew up with. As much as I LOVE this film for for its sweetness, I resent the fact that Hollywood presented our girl this way.
