Customer Reviews of Nancy Drew: The Legend of the Crystal Skull
They're getting better! When ND games first came out, my daughter and I fell in love with them. We could play them together and the puzzles were challenging and the situations were sometimes scary (the kind of scary as in anticipation of who or what is around the corner.) The locations were often historical and we learned a lot while having fun playing the game. But the last few games have been just plain dumb, no real suspense or challenge, just silly, repetitive tasks or puzzles that were so hard they became very frustrating. We had about given up on ND games, especially with the most recent ones having so many bugs and the theme music being gone. But HI redeemed themselves with CRY. The puzzles are very challenging but solvable, there is a definite element of suspense and anticipation, and best of all no repetitive busywork. I do wish we got to do a bit more exploring, and really would like the endings to be more challenging. That used to be one of the scariest parts, trying to get away from or to catch the culprit! Now it seems like the story just kind of ends and you have to sit through a long explanation. CRY is definitely back on the right track but there are still improvements to be made, and HI, please bring back that opening theme music- that really set the mood for a good mystery!
Raining at the Mansion
This adventure has everything I look for in this type of game; a haunted house, a rainstorm (that you walk in and never get wet!), New Orleans and hints of voodoo. The characters are interesting, not annoying, and there are less phone calls than in other Nancy Drew games. The problem is that many of the puzzles are not solvable. They involve tedious trial and error for a solution that cannot be deduced by logical reasoning, or simply make no sense at all. I found myself on the cheat boards often, and felt disheartened when I realized there was no way to have "figured it out" myself. Play this one for the gothic ambiance, but don't waste time if you can't 'get' the puzzle.
I Think That Her Interactive Finally Got The Message!
I have been an avid Nancy Drew gamer for years now. I have purchased and solved all 16 prior ND games, but I was so dissapointed with the last two game in the series that I almost didn't buy this one. I'm glad that I did though. I was beginning to wonder why Her Interactive wasn't listening to all the reviews that were being posted on the website that said they wanted Nancy Drew to return to what the first games were like. I could not agree more! The first games in the series were so wonderful, that the last two or three have been huge letdowns. Finally, this game IS a return to the original. No, the theme song is not back, and you don't have the wonderful book menu, and it doesn't incorporate edutainment into the mix, but the storyline and the puzzles were quite a step up from previous games.

>Story-Great again! The only thing I would have liked is if there was more interaction between Nancy and the other characters in the game.

>Puzzles-A+ They were more challenging than some of the other games in the series. I had to spend more time on some of these puzzles than I spent total on the two previous, and some of them were really addictive and fun!

>Ending-Dreadful! It was not at all challenging or difficult! I wasn't even surprised by the culprit!

>Puzzles-Some of them were very repetetive. I NEVER want to see another glass eye again!

>Content-Clean game, but contained a little bit of hoodoo. I am a Christian, so this made me a little bit uneasy. It is presented as a bunch of hogwash, but if young children are going to be playing it, you may want to pass on it!

>A word to the wise: Some very creepy, make you jump a mile high, moments in this game. I loved it, but I think some children would end up having nightmares!

>All in all, this is one of the best games Her has produced in a while! If you are like me, and are a loyal ND fan who has been hesitant to buy this game because of its predecessors you won't be dissapointed with Legend of the Crystal Skull!
