Great subject matter, below par execution
Owned it for a couple of years, but was unable to run it since there were some video bugs that were never fixed by the publisher. Tons of other people had these and other problems. I did recently have time to downgrade my Radeon video driver to a version (Catalyst 3.1 aka build 6404 if I recall)that is compatible with the game. It's a limited, yet decent simulation. The racing is fun, graphics are good, and the sound is above par for racing games. The nitromethane burning Top Fuel and Funny Cars actually sound fairly realistic. Even TV coverage fails to capture the sound of these cars very well. You need to hear them yourself at a track sometime. I promise you will never forget the first time you hear a Top Fuel car start up, nor will you forget the first time you see/hear one make a pass down the track. A pair of nitro cars are equivalent in horsepower to about 20 NASCAR cars.
Hardly anyone plays it online since patching was handled so poorly. The game did some damage to NHRA in this respect. Let's hope the (being released as I write this-Feb2004) NHRA Top Fuel Thunder version makes up for past wrongs.

It's too hard to put into words. 330mph down a quarter mile, less than four and a half seconds. It is just untouchable in the excitement category.

This game rocks
This game rocks. You can pick cars from different sponsors. You can also pick your own crew chief. The only thing is that you need a joystick or steering wheel. You can't even customize parts like in IHRA Drag Racing. Besides that, this game rocks.
