That's not to say Gameday doesn't have its inherent charms. Despite the dreaded on-field "juke" option, the gameplay is fast and entertaining. With the addition of the general manager mode, which allows for multiple seasons and all sorts of player/personnel movement, the game is much deeper than last year's version. However, Gameday 2000 strives to find that Zen-like balance between fun arcade style gameplay and in-depth simulation à la Madden, but comes up just a tad short. --Sajed Ahmed

Customer Reviews of NFL GameDay 2000
Turn off your brain. This is a pretty fun game. The graphics are above average, and the animation is fairly smooth. As mentioned by other reviewers, there are one or two niggling little bugs, but for me they didn't really detract from my enjoyment (as the title states, turn off your brain).
The commentators become a little same-ish after a while ("Here is a good example of the quarterback waiting, waiting, waiting, and then..." you get the idea).
I like some of the other features, like designing your ideal "super" player, being able to trade folks out of the team, free agents etc etc.
If you just want mindless entertainment, you should enjoy this, if you're looking for a real simulation of football management, or first person football, then this probably isn't for you.
I wonder when SimFootball comes out? :-)
Game cheats
Never have I bought a game that cheats so much. The playstation opponents can literally run right through you. I used instant replay to verify this. The game has no knowledge of the rules. It is very selective in determining where the ball should be placed due to forward progress. The playstation team's receivers have jumped up, caught the ball, and landed out of bounds without being pushed out. This is called a reception. It never has called pass interference against itself, but will do so if I committ the infraction. Also, when a defender is in mid-air before the quarterback releases the ball, and then the defender slams into him, the playstation calls roughing the passer 75% of the time. They are always 4 to 5 yards offsides on kick offs. During the onside-kick, the ball is supposed to travel 10+ yards before the kicking team can touch it. The playstation team has recovered the kick after only 6 yards on many occasions. Phil Simms's commentary is very stupid and repetetive. On the good side, the graphics are good and the controls are very nice. This game, however, seems like a setback to Gameday '98.
Excellent!
Lots of additional reinfinement makes this a great game, maybe the best. The graphics have received quite a bit of boost, and really look great. The gameplay is strong and exciting, just like it has been since NFL Gameday 1996. I love this game, and it really deserves a spot in every gamer's collection.
