Customer Reviews of NFL 2K
One Word: AWESOME Although NFL 2K takes a couple of days of sitting hour after endless hour getting used to what button to hit when, the overall performance and interaction this game offers are unmatched. The game is, in a word, awesome.
I'm a bigtime gamer, and I can honestly say that the graphics and animation of this game surpass any I've every played. The passes, runs and tackles are so close to the real thing that if the game were any more realistic, the game player would be wearing a helmet and shoulder pads.
There's a few kinks to be worked out for the next release, though. NFL 2.5K would be nice - I would hate to have to wait for a 2001 release. Anyway, the announcers sometimes make goofy, innaccurate calls, like saying something like, "The player really needs to focus and hold onto the ball - he was lucky his team recovered that fumble!" when, in reality, his team did not recover. Also, the announcers spend too much time repeating themselves and this gets old after a while. They also tend to rag on the poor quarterback a lot - until, of course, he completes a pass. Then, he's the best quarterback in the league. But overall, it's nice to finally see a game where the announcers are, at least 85% of the time, accurate in their remarks.
On the other hand, NFL 2K more than makes up for the announcers' innaccuracies by its great graphics and flexibility - allowing you to create your own teams and, yes, your own players. I finished a game last night against the Cowboys where I, yes ME, rushed for 225 yards. Although I cheated on the size of the player's arms, weight, height, speed and strength, it's still pretty cool to see your name on the back of an NFL jersey as you steamroll a Cowboy linebacker!
Don't want to write too much, but with this game, you will find there is never too much to say. It is definitely a must buy and proves to be reason enough to purchase the Dreamcast system. I plan on spending many more hours mastering offensive and defensive moves. Thank you, Sega.
The game is great but has some glitches!
There is no doubt this is the best football game ever created; can you say realistic graphics and team creation? You will be impressed with Sega's creation and innovation! However, I, along with my friends, feel that the game doesn't allow the running game to work-You will rarely get over an 8-yard run. I mean it's frustrating to have a tip notch offensive line and running back, only to be plowed down by some no-name defense. Also, the computer seems to pick defensive plays according to what you select as an offensive play. The commentators are always inaccurate, you can't make your own formations, there is no juke move, and my game always makes noises due to a skip. These are just some things that can be improved, but I definitely recommend the system and NFL 2K. Just be ready to buy a lot of extras to connect the system to your television!
Good looks, awful gameplay
Don't pay a penny for this, folks. Move on to an EA game. There is very little in the way of actual physics calculations between players in this game, every interaction is merely a scripted animation. RBs are stopped in full stride by shoestring tackles. WRs run their routes at half speed while the DBs shadow them *IN FRONT* of their routes. Offensive line programming is horrible. Guards and tackles blow assignments on EVERY play, doubling up on a DT and allowing LBs to come free and tackle the RB at the handoff. There is no player momentum, a flaw I've noticed in a number of Sega Sports games, meaning any player can stop in mid-stride and immediately run full stride in the opposite direction. Sit back and watch the computer play: 3and out, 3 and out, 3 and out... This was an incomplete game that should not have been released. So what if it looks pretty? It plays like crap.
