Niners: One for the Thumb
Ah... nothin' like reminiscing over your fave team's past championship seasons to get ya primed for an all-new season of hard-hittin' NFL action! In this instance, I waxed nostalgic over the San Francisco 49ers' 1994 season, a year that saw them bolt all the way to a record-setting fifth Super Bowl title! And the best part is, they beat my three most-despised teams (the Lambs, BlowBoys, and Faders-whoops, I mean the Rams, Cowboys, and Raiders) in the process, two of which they beat twice! It doesn't get much better than that, lemme tells ya...

Among the highlights (and a few lowlights):

- Season opener against the Raiders: Rice becomes the all-time touchdown leader with his third score of the night!

- Week 2 at KC: Chiefs QB Joe Montana leads Kansas City past his former team. This would be his first and only regular-season game against the Niners before retiring at the end of the year.

- Week 3 at L.A. Rams: Niners win... what more can a SanFran fan ask for?

- Week 4 vs. New Orleans: CB Deion Sanders puts the game away with a 90+ yard high-steppin' interception-return TD!

- Week 7 at Atlanta: Deion Sanders gets into a scuffle with former teammate, WR Andre Rison. Sanders closes out the scoring in the first half with a coast-to-coast interception return for a TD. The reaction of the Falcons team members on the sidelines as he races past 'em for the score has to be seen to be believed! Back it UP!

- Week 10 vs. Dallas: DIE YOU COWBOY SCUMBAGS!!! DIE DIE DIE!!! Okay, now I'm gonna rewind this portion of the highlight tape and watch it again... press play... DIE SOME MORE YOU COWBOY SCUMBAGS!!! DIE DIE DIE AGAIN!!! Rewind it again... press play... y'know, it's really weird-- I've never quite figured out why this part of the tape has such poor picture quality...

- Week 11 vs. LA Rams: The Niners win a squeaker here, the final game in the 40-plus-year West Coast rivalry between these two teams. The Rams' move to St. Louis the following season left the Niners as the only NFC West team that was actually based in the west!

- Week 14 at San Diego: This proved to be an apt Super Bowl preview as SanFran dominated most of the day, much like they would against the Chargers several weeks later. Deion Sanders gets his third interception-return TD of the year, which is a major factor in him being selected as 1994's Defensive Player of the Year.

- NFC Championship vs. Dallas: Three Dallas turnovers help give the Niners a 21-0 lead halfway through the first quarter, which eventually proved to large an advantage to overcome. DIE YET AGAIN YOU COWBOY SCUMBAGS!!! DIE DIE-uh-oh, the tape broke... AGAIN...

- Super Bowl XXIX: Game MVP Steve Young finally wins a Super Bowl of his very own! He and his offensive charges move the ball and score pretty much at will against San Diego. The Chargers manage to return one of these post-TD kickoffs for a score of their own, which adds a little bit of excitement to this dud of a game. Deion tries his hand at wide receiver for a late-game pass play, but isn't able to hold on to the bean.

All in all, I found this particular presentation pretty good, what with it bein' a Niners highlights video and all. The only thing I could do without was the footage of the fans in the stands, both of the Niners and of the opposing teams. Man, are those people annoying! And to think I'd have to endure these psychos were I actually able to afford a ticket to a Niner game! As if the players' pregame trash-talking and a few of the hyperactive radio announcers wasn't enough to drive me up a wall...

Steve Young's year, day and the best MVP ever.
This team went into the 1994 season and was looked at as a joke. They had alot of old, over the hill players that other teams had casted aside. The season started of good, them came the eagles. Steve had the worst day ever and the team looked as if it were over. Then in the flash of an eye,BAM! The 49ers proved superman is real and he wears red and gold. Deion, Norton and Jackson are just a few people on defense that made one of the best ever. Dallas didn't think it was real. 38-28. San Diego found out to.49-26. And Steves legacy as one of the best ever quarterbacks in history, besides Joe, will forever be remembered in 1994.
