Street has two different game modes--City Circuit and Hold the Court--yet the differences here are minimal. Both feature three-on-three games of 21, in which you must assemble a squad composed of (initially) NBA players. Soon you'll play against street legends (read: bosses) that, once defeated, can be added to your team. Your ultimate goal is to defeat the biggest legend ever: Michael Jordan.
To survive the streets, you must learn which buttons to mash as you master specific stunts. This will add special points to your score and give you access to different ways to score. Though similar to NBA Jam and its sequels, Street is deeper, and sports a surprisingly developed finesse game.
Street does commit some fouls, though, with its over-the-top, repetitive commentary and lack of play modes. However, even if you hate arcade-style basketball, you'll find Street differs from the pack, making it a solid MVP contender.
Pros:
- Good controls and gameplay
- Pleasantly cartoonish graphics
- Arcade approach makes it fun for those turned off by very technical basketball simulations
- Horrific commentary
- Only 2 very similar gameplay modes
- No 4-player support

Customer Reviews of NBA Street
B-Ball at its finest!!!!!!! NBA Street is probably the best basketball game out to date. It has all the teams in the league as of right now. The rosters are a little off since it came out in 2001, but all the best players are still there including Jason Kidd, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, David Robinson, and Shaquille O' Neal. Even "His Airness" Micheal Jordan is a playable character. The game is about street basketball, so there are of course street legends.
They are:
1. Biggs- a 6'9" dude who is a master at dunks
2. Bonafide- a short, speedy dude who reminds me of Allen Iverson
3. Drake-the best 3-point shooter ever; he can make half court shots
4. DJ-a well-balanced player who can dunk and shoot the rock.
5. Takashi- a 7'8" Japanese guy who can block almost any shot.
6. Stretch- a tall guy who is the most well-rounded of the legends
There are 4 major gameplay modes in NBA Street:
1.City Circuit- You go all around the country playing b-ball to prove you are the best in the nation. You can get players for your custom team as well as legends, courts, and create-a-player points.
2.Hold the Court- You challenge a random group of NBA players as you try to break records of points and winning streaks in different courts. You get players, create-a-player points, create-a-player outfits, and cheats.
3.Street School- Joe "The Show" teaches you the basics of NBA Street. You get nothing from this.
4.Create-A-Player- You can make a player here. You choose how he/she looks and what they are good at.
There is a good variety of courts to play on ranging from courts in Canada to New York City. This game has arcade-style gameplay at its best with you trying to get a gamebreaker which is a shot with a cool special effect that minuses your opponents points by the number of points your shot is worth. Points go only as 1's or 2's in this game. Trust me, the commentary in this game is not as bad as some of the other reviewers say. It can get a little old, but it is a cool thing which further enhances the game.
Even if you don't really like the NBA, you can't go wrong with buying this game.
It's like HangTime + NBA Jam on an ACID trip
PS2 has finally put out a basketball game worth playing. Before I had to pull out the Dreamcast for the best NBA action on a console with the NBA2k1. If you're a fan of HangTime or NBA Jam, then this is the game for you. Allen Iverson type cross overs, N.Y.'s Rucker Park type street action, enough trash talk for all garbage playing street players and it carries all NBA teams with their top 5 best players (and no!..the Lakers aren't the best squad on the game). No fouls, no calls just lace'em up and bring on your "A" game. Take your best game along with Michael Jordan (MIKE IS BACK) into the "City Circuit" mode to beat the best NBA/Street teams and receive one of their players to add to your team or receive player points to create your own street super star. What trip me out the most was seeing the female POP group "3LW" on the court making my game look real weak. They also do all of the voice-overs for the female players and hi-light action. The only problem I have with the game is the announcer. He sounds like a brotha from deep country Mississippi who moved to NY and picked up some hip-hop slang. "BLING-BLING"............ they could've left that phrase out. Great game, sure to keep yours thumbs sore from hours of play.
