Customer Reviews of NBA Live 2004

More like 3 and a half
Im a big fan of the NBA Live series, its always satisfied me, and this version is a great improvement from the others. Everything in the game is fine, all the new features are pretty cool, except the training mode where you dont get to train anything, you have to watch your players in a half assed montage where theyre supposed to be training, and everything has it flaws but nothing too dissapointing...except for this: CPU NEVER SHOOTS! Hear that? Your computer teammates will never put a shot up by themselves...EVER! give the ball off to your best scorer, call for an Isolation, now in NBAL03 they would have juked their defender one their way to the hoop and finished with a nice dunk or layup, easy two points, but in 04 your teamate will just stand there and either get the ball stolen or hold on to the ball until the shot clock runs out. So basically you have to score every point or else you can forget about winning. Its very frustrating. Another bad thing is way too many easy shots roll out of the hoop. You can take the best player and run right up to the basket and try a quick lay up or short jumper and somehow itll pop out, and even when you run a perfect alley-oop and yout teammate catches it and throws it down itll STILL pop out most of the time! This game has its quirks but its worth playing if your a fan, personally Im going to give ESPN BBall a try, considering its superiority to Madden, Im sure its much better than this.

Good, but too hard to get inside
I am a big b-ball fan, and every year I buy or rent the NBA Live series from EA Sports. In the past, it was quite easy to pass the ball down low to the big fella and have him slam it over the other center's head. In this installment, EA decided to give your oppenent's center an IQ as if he graduated (ha) from Harvard. I found in nearly impossible to penetrate the paint.

This is not an outside shot game either. For example, I was Ray Allen and the Seattle Supersonics, one of the best perimeter players in the league. I played the 76ers. Allen Iverson, a good defender, but is only about 5'10 to my 6'5, had 7 or 8 blocks against me. Iverson gets about 0.2 blocks a game in the NBA. The only way to score in this game is to have about 30 or so steals and 50 or so fast break points.

The square button (layup/dunk) makes the game harder as well. If you are just outside the paint and you hit square, you air ball and look like a complete fool. However, if you just step about 4 inches inside the paint and hit square, the ball goes in and the crowd goes wild. It is almost made me scream when I missed by hitting the jump shot button just inside the paint.

There is no improvement nor change in the dyansty mode. The same exact offseason and regular season modes still exist. The only change I noted was the training camp. In training camp, you pick either shooting, defense, offense, or conditiong mode for your players to train in. In Madden 2004, you control the selected player, but in Live, it is simulated and your players never seem to improve in the area you choose.

I hope you read this review before you spend $50 on it. Definetly rent it before wasting hard-earned cash on it.
