Customer Reviews of NASCAR 2001
NASCAR 2001 Review NASCAR 2001 is a fine game if you're not into NASCAR, but if that's the case then you should be buying Gran Turismo 2 or Ridge Racer R4. If you are into NASCAR like myself than this game is a disappointment to say the least.
If you've ever played any of the NASCAR Racing series of games from Sierra/Papyrus on your PC then stay away from NASCAR 2001 (or any of the other NASCAR games on the Playstation) as they don't even come close.
The game looks alright and does have some nice touches, but it is so unrealistic in terms of racing that you will quickly grow frustrated. Take the effect of the draft for instance. Get anywhere close to the back of the car in front of you and you will slingshot by in next to no time regardless if the track is Bristol or Talladega. Not only is this not realistic, it also takes away the ability to race side by side. Other problems include the fact that NASCAR 2001 only allows 18 cars in the race, their isn't the option for pace laps just a countdown from 3 and that the commentary is very limited and dull.
Bottom line is this: Get Gran Turismo 2 if you have a Playstation, or better yet get NASCAR Racing 4 for your PC.
New NASCAR is the best one yet
Being the huge fan of NASCAR that I am and of the ES Sports NASCAR racing games it was a must have for me to pick up the 2001 edition, I now own them all but the first one 98. The biggest improvement by far is the ability to race at Daytona, for the 500 and for the Pepsi 400 under the lights. I was at this past years 400 and I was amazed by the realism of the track and the feel. The new game engine is much more realistic as is the spotter voices and the announcers don't talk so much in this game as in past ones. The ability to create a driver, his car make between Ford, Chevy, and Ponitac is another advantage though I do wish the Chrysler was available. The car set up is a lot trickier than in the previous ones, more like Nascar99 where it gets very technical is setting it up, but that's what the practice is for. The view from inside the car is also much better than in other editions and the ability to do a quick view of whats behind you gives a really feel to a rear-bumper cam, and the rear-view mirror works well. Another feature that I love is the ability to spin another driver, I spun Jeff Gordon a few times, though he tends to recover and keep going. The only downsides are the view damage screen isn't there anymore, you have to rely on the spotter telling you which they do and the pit stops are a little slower since it's all controlled by the computer now. But the yeah's outweigh the nah's by about 99 to 1. This is by the far the best in the series and a must have for any true NASCAR fan who enjoys driving. Another plus was that they have Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin Jr. in the game, so their memories will never fade and they also printed in the front jacket In Memory to Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin Jr. Godspeed.
my review (please read)
Well personally i am a nascar fan and have all the nascar games from 1996-2002 :). 2001 one was one of the better ones, although i think 2000 was a bit better but 2001 has better graphics and more realistic gameplay. but the best one yet is nascar2002, over all nascar 2001 is a good game and is worth its price.
